I want to cry when I fill up my tank, generally once a week.
I drive a 2001 Dodge Ram PU, single cab, V6. 26 gallon tank, if I baby it I'll get 20 mpg out of it. Lately I've only been getting 19 mpg. :| It's got over 200,000 miles and was purchased new in 2000. I can't complain, it's been a very reliable vehicle.

$3.68 in Escanaba MI. I tell ya nobody with a child of daycare age can afford to work by the time ya pay a sitter, gas and taxes come out you are lucky if ya break even.
3.59 here for regular here in northern Florida Last I looked diesel was 4.15 that was Sunday
I just saw a sign that said $3.45 a gallon for regular unleaded.
I have found a couple of things to save me gas, though, if not money.
I drive a little over 50 miles each day (round trip) to work. I used to drive 75 mph on the interestate, which makes up about 45 miles of the driving. I recently slowed down to 60 mph on the interstate. This may aggravate the other drivers, but they aren't buying my gas. And they are welcomg to go around. That's why there are two lanes.
I have to add here, I use cruise control. It takes me about two minutes longer to get to work. If you put it on cruise, it is really painless to slow down a little.
And the obvious--we make as few extra trips anywhere as possible. We try to consolidate our errand running and do as much without using the car as possible.
This has saved me about a quarter of a tank of gas each week. I fill up the car every weekend. Before the slow down, I was using one full tank each week. Right now, I am spending the same amount of money on 3/4 of a tank as I used to spend on a full tank. But I shudder to think what I would be paying to fill up if I was still buying a whole tank full.
I'm going to say something that makes my husband very angry, so I doubt anyone here will agree. But no one forces us to buy gasoline. I mean, yeah, we all need it, but we could choose not to buy it. (We think we need a lot of stuff now that we didn't think we needed twenty or fifty or 100 years ago.) There are consequences we would suffer if we didn't buy it, but the option is still there.
That is why I am doing what I can to use as little as possible. (I already traded in my Explorer on a Corolla.) Plus, I have already decided that if gas gets to be more than I can afford, I'm going to talk to my boss about telecommuting one or two days a week. And if that doesn't work, trying to find a job closer to home.
I'm not saying that any of you aren't doing all that you can. I'm just saying what *I* do.
I also have been trying to use less electricity at home. I understand this makes a difference. I'm not an expert at it, but I figure every time I turn off a light or a fan it must be helping... just a little bit.
I know LOTS of people who don't have to worry about money who will just pay whatever and won't be inconvenienced by the mere price of gas. I don't expect them to change their habits any. But there are many many more of us struggling middle class who have to choose between a gallon of gas and a gallon of milk. If we all stop using so much, it will have to eventually make a dent in this "demand" they keep talking about.
My main point in this absurdly long rant is not to get into a political discussion (which I will not do anyway.) I'm just trying to give some ideas to people who are struggling like I am. This has really helped me. And while the price of gas has been going up and up, I have managed to keep spending the same amount each month for it. And I keep looking for ways to use less and less. If the price ever does come down, I might be in good shape. LOL

$3.49 in Jacksonville Florida lowest I have seen. I went from driving a 1999 Chevy Tahoo with a big V8 to a 4cyl Hyundai Sonata. I now get 25.9 in the city and on the highway this past weekend I averaged 37 mpg. Yeah I-95, I-295 and I-10.
