Let's have a gosling hatchalong!

MominOz

Sounds like you had a rough time with the hatchling and quite sad it didn't make it after your efforts and endeavours.

I'm not altogether sure what your questions are but I think you're asking about room environment. I do think a cool, ventilated room is best for incubation as the air is changed and usually carries less moisture.

In terms of incubator than fan driven has the benefits of good air circulation and absence of hot spots.

Congratulations on your 1st Dewlap this season - woo hoo. So it a big gosling and I take it a Grey as you said a Boy??

Our 2nd Dewlap egg is just starting rotation and from candling I can see the yolk sac and blood vessels are all absorbed so we're ready for action!!!

Like you we've got a 50% chance of a Buff (male or female). I keep looking for the beak coming through so I can see the colour. Think I'll go and have a glass of wine and try to avoid looking for a while

Week 2 results added.
Have been keeping temp at 37.2 and humidity around 50%.
Taken eggs out of incubator for 10mins each day. Any advice is greatly appreciated. I think they may be still loosing too much weight. Please help.

I'm no expert, but I kept my humidity at 16-28% from day 1-25 or so...til the air sac dropped noticeably and they pipped internally. Then I popped them into my hatcher incubator at 75% humidity and they did fine. I also took them out like you are doing, sprayed them with water and cooled for 10min/day the first week, then adding a minute every few days til they were out 20 min a day the last week til they went into the hatcher.
Good Luck
Lisa

I gave my babies, (three goslings and two chicks) back to mama goose tonight. I hope everything goes well. The chicks are from my incubator test run and hatched about the same time the last gosling did. To introduce them, I took away all my goose's eggs, removed her from the nest and put in the babies. She wasn't sure about them at first, but maternal instinct won over and she hopped up on the nest and settled down on top of them, feathers loose, wings out. I will check on them once more before I go to bed, but so far they seem ok.
Do you think the chicks will be ok with her? They have bonded with the goslings, and I didn't want to separate them.
How is your mama goose doing with her new babies goslings and chicks?

Not good at all. I went down to check on them a couple hours later, right before bed, and one gosling was dead under mama. I took the othes back inside. The problem is my geese don't know how to differentiate between goslings and eggs, so they plop down on the babies the same as they do on eggs. Is it normal for mama geese to accidentally crush a baby? how about three? Could this just be a first time thing? so much for letting "nature take its course".

Aww I am sorry, maybe first time mamas just aren't sure what to do with the lil ones.

Congrads J and Pete on your dewlap goslings. I hope for the both of you to get BUFFS!!!!

Everyone else congrads on your new goslings as well.

Sorry for those of you have problems with goslings I hope you will have better luck on the next hatchings...

Samantha our White sebbie curly breasted none of her eggs hatched. I do believe they were older eggs that she went broody on. Had to kick her off the nest today and let her get a bath for one of the eggs exploded on her and boy was my beautiful white girl and muddy stinky mess from being on the nest so long. I feel bad for Samantha. She wants back into the nest but can not let her. She is one of those females who will sit until she dies to hatch the eggs!!! So we have to intervine.
NO white this year from Samantha...
