Let's have a gosling hatchalong!

Arrrh bless.
I have three goslings under a brood. Hatched over last night. They come out to see us but Mean Bird (the broody bantam) is not happy about this! Already had a cheeky cuddle with two of them.

Also have two external pipping in the incubator aswell and afew more rocking. Im so happy. Everyone I have spoken to has said incubating eggs is not any good as they have not had any sucess themselves.
did you ever find out what your babies were that you had asked about? I thought they looked a lot like Embden.

our first Sebbies are due Sunday

Been running 100% hatch of Embden that make it past day 14.

The little baby is still alive believe it or not! I put it in the hatcher after I cleaned all that goo away from its face two days ago and haven't opened it again since. I added more water through the air vent hole. It does look as though the yolk sac is absorbing as I'm not able to see it as good...two days ago it was clearly visible. I don't know...this little thing probably won't make it but it's really hard not to get my hopes up!

On a happier note, as I was putting birds to bed tonight, the goose that's setting on that lone egg stood up for a second.....WHAT!!!!
ep.gif
HOLY COW!!!! I've got me some sneaky little goosie momma's alrighty! I couldn't tell for sure how many but I'd take a guess at............drum roll please.................. EIGHT TO TEN EGGS UNDER HER!!!! Tickled me to pieces!

I also FINALLY got my first Mandarin egg today!!!

Sorry I haven't posted pics yet...the hubby's working weird hours right now and his cell is my only way of taking pics.

I wish I could afford a good "big girl's camera"!!! I LOVE some of the pics you guys are able to get of your birds. Mine all turn out horrible.

Nope. I did not get an answer. I pretty sure they are embdens as the older ones are getting their white pins through at the moment.

Another question: Do goslings do alright in the rain? We have given them two shelters and they dont appear to be bothered about using them! Its only spitting rain at the moment. I dont want them to get completley soaked or they will have to be separated from their foster parents to dry out in the house.

Also another drama with the eggs in the incubator...one hatched overnight fine (yipee) 3am and I was there. One is pipping as we speak and another has decided to pip the wrong end of the egg. It has cracked off the outer shell and I had a quick poke and it drew a small bloody discharge so have left well alone. I will keep an eye on it. Its beak was directly below the opening so it can get oxygen if it likes (saw an article on here about it). Im checking every couple of hours. Should I be peeling back the shell at a later time? and when?

Thanks again

Catching up again, we have been having so much internet problems. We are the last on the line and they keep "dropping us out of the system", new modem, then hubby trying to get our network to work with it.... aaarggh.
It's been pouring rain for a week, flash flood, etc. I checked on the only Tufted Buff goose I kept, i'd given her a n African egg and 2 Shetlands as she wanted to set. I thought mayb e they were duds, but was checking every day ( her mother hatched some babies, but only one survived , and others crushed or not hatched ...so I wanted to take any that may be hatching. Sure enough , there was one of the 3 pipped in the wrong end! So I snatched them and plunked them in the hatcher . I did later take him out and chip at hole , there was a bit of blood , so I put him back, overnight , He hatched out of the narrow end

One of my Holderreads Super African yearling pair. Course he/she has been left in hatcher , because I need to move the larger Hookbills out of lalrger brooder in garage, so I can move the little ducks/ geese out of the smaller brooder ,( the \Shetland goose is getting big fast, the African is 2 days behind her and half her size... dont' want to put this baby in with the duck/goose group yet as the Silky ducks picked on the 3 -4 day younger geese when I first put them in. Fortunately , it stopped .(but I kept an eye on them). The other two eggs I candled, one was a dud, the other not sure , can't see thru it , but has an air cell. There are also some duck eggs in there for this weekend hatch. So I added group 5 to the other bator , some Shetland eggs and Runners,; to fill the space where group 3 had been. temp a bit low for 2 days, then yesterday, temp . got messed up.maybe during a turn or something the wafer got jiggeled? But it seemed to not want to come on right and spun around 1.5 times before it come on, and this morning it was 88 degrees,
barnie.gif
so who knows what will happen, I am home so I can keep up with it, but not sure I didn't mess it up good.... have group 4 about halfway thru and the new eggs are only on day 4 or so.....

update:

Baby African goose hung himself on the wafer in the hatcher, must have stood on eggs and wanted to get out

Mystil.......... you can look on feathersite for pics, they have a lot of babies there to identify... alos your baibes are outside? how old? generally I don't let mine outside in rain, or ducks until they are mostly feathered out. They need some kind of warmth for a couple weeks, and way to get out of rain. I wouldn't assume babies "know when to come out of rain" , may or may not have those instincts intact or training form parents..... I wouldn't risk unfeathered babies in rain, I sure can't take a cool rain without protection

Exciting, stressful and troubling day all at the same time. I put my 2 sebbies who were incubator raised outside this am in the goose yard w amer. buff pair n their 5 babies hatched yesterday. Mom n dad are much easier on them than they are with the juvenile chickens - no biting but some hissing and chasing away from the wee ones. Very traumatic for my 2 babies. ( and for me too) but they're just too big to be in the house anymore. Hubby has been very patient with the big tub in the middle of our living room so that they can bathe and hang out with us in the evenings but since they're just a day or so from being able to jump out of said tub and very difficult to housebreak its time for them to move. So hard to walk away while they're hollering " Mama"!
On a tougher note one of my buffs seems to have been born with no eyes. Appears to be healthy otherwise but not sure if its eating and drinking yet. No way i can destroy a healthy baby so took it inside w me this am after it got lost and stuck in a corner an put it in brooder w a couple of week old chicks. Will work w it when i get home again and see if it will be able to find food and water on it's own. Hoping the chicks will help teach it too. If we can get thru the next few days I think it will have a good chance. Has anyone else had this problem?

Thats not bad numbers for shipped eggs, yet Utah is a Master Packer

I have 5 eggs from Beignet and her boyfriend, Chicory turning into hatching position right now. I expect they will hatch by the end of the weekend. Chicory is a grey split to buff production Toulouse. Not sure what Beignet is... maybe a production Toulouse crossed with a white-fronted goose? Whatever she is, she's a sweet and chunky girl.

I know Iain Utah has a blind goose, she didn't get it as a gosling but it's doing fine so hopefully yours will too. most important is keeping everything in the same place always so it can always find food and water. Hope it makes it
