Let's have a gosling hatchalong!

Its not just any African baby ~ it has gorgeous African Dewlap Parents ! So excited about these babies, and cannot wait to see them grow ~ I have 2 more that hatched out with them.

and AGAIN 3 girls
The little baby is still alive believe it or not! I put it in the hatcher after I cleaned all that goo away from its face two days ago and haven't opened it again since. I added more water through the air vent hole. It does look as though the yolk sac is absorbing as I'm not able to see it as good...two days ago it was clearly visible. I don't know...this little thing probably won't make it but it's really hard not to get my hopes up!

On a happier note, as I was putting birds to bed tonight, the goose that's setting on that lone egg stood up for a second.....WHAT!!!!

HOLY COW!!!! I've got me some sneaky little goosie momma's alrighty! I couldn't tell for sure how many but I'd take a guess at............drum roll please.................. EIGHT TO TEN EGGS UNDER HER!!!! Tickled me to pieces!

I also FINALLY got my first Mandarin egg today!!!

Sorry I haven't posted pics yet...the hubby's working weird hours right now and his cell is my only way of taking pics.

I wish I could afford a good "big girl's camera"!!! I LOVE some of the pics you guys are able to get of your birds. Mine all turn out horrible.

YEAH! For Eggs ~ I have a friend who has Mandies & still are not laying ~ She is getting impatient ~ Sure you get that
Are you going to candle the eggs under her? I know I probally couldn't help myself.

We will wait for pics, and sheesh everyone's pics are stinking amazing!

did you ever find out what your babies were that you had asked about? I thought they looked a lot like Embden.

our first Sebbies are due Sunday

Fertilty on babies !
Catching up again, we have been having so much internet problems. We are the last on the line and they keep "dropping us out of the system", new modem, then hubby trying to get our network to work with it.... aaarggh.

Sorry about your baby african
hugs.gif

I finally had to change ~ We had Centurylink for the last 7 years ~ I got Sheet internet ~ slow ~ hit or miss when it would work. They told us for all them years that they were working on it. Until finally our whole town wrote a petition on the internet connection. Then for another year "We are working on the problem"....
he.gif
So instead of bithcin I decided to bite the bullet and get Hughesnet. It is a little more spendy ~ BUT when you live in the country & you do not have any other choices .... I mean we have only 1 cell provider to choose from out here if we want to be able to talk on our cell without having to drive somewhere
th.gif
~ I wish I would have tried them sooner ~ I have internet like the rest of the world !!!!!
Mystil.......... you can look on feathersite for pics, they have a lot of babies there to identify... alos your baibes are outside? how old? generally I don't let mine outside in rain, or ducks until they are mostly feathered out. They need some kind of warmth for a couple weeks, and way to get out of rain. I wouldn't assume babies "know when to come out of rain" , may or may not have those instincts intact or training form parents..... I wouldn't risk unfeathered babies in rain, I sure can't take a cool rain without protection

Hubby has been very patient with the big tub in the middle of our living room so that they can bathe and hang out with us in the evenings but since they're just a day or so from being able to jump out of said tub and very difficult to housebreak its time for them to move.

A big

to patient wonderful hubbies !

Of course you are hatching more buff girls.

But, I'm very happy you are getting good hatches from my girls' eggs! By the way, my closet is quickly filling up with eggs again...........

I have 5 eggs from Beignet and her boyfriend, Chicory turning into hatching position right now. I expect they will hatch by the end of the weekend. Chicory is a grey split to buff production Toulouse. Not sure what Beignet is... maybe a production Toulouse crossed with a white-fronted goose? Whatever she is, she's a sweet and chunky girl.

Thanks for the info.

The goslings are 2 weeks and 4 weeks old. The oldest ones are just getting their pin feathers on their wings. Weather is going to be gales and rain tomorrow. Im going to either have to separate the foster parents (them outside and babies inside) or have all the birds inside for the whole day....

What would be best???

Also the one pipping in the incubator out of the wrong end appears to be okay. We have left it for 9 hrs and then we peeled back some of the shell leaving the membrane intact. It appears to be doing the rest, just hope it is absorbing the egg yoke.

Also have another 2 pipping at the moment, so that makes 1 out of the egg and 5 pipping in the incubator!

Why wouldn't you open the membrane a tiny bit? didn't appear to be dried on the gosling did it? course I'm sure you know more about hatching than me I've never used an incubator only a duck.

I understand that you have a blind goose. My am. buff gosling hatched yesterday with no eyes. Assuming that i get it eating and drinking ok do you have any advice on raising it to be a happy well-adjusted goose? Right now its in the brooder with 2 young chickens.

Sorry I broke the membrane just a tiny bit this morning so it could breath but it bled so I left it alone to absorb the veins. I can see it breathing now and it is rocking abit but there was no improvement so we broke off some of the shell to make it easier for it to break free. We did not want to do the whole thing.

Sorry I did this morning but it bled so I left well alone. We left for 9 hours but because it was pipping at the wrong end we were worried. So we took some of the shell off so we could see the membrain better and also to make it easier for the gosling to do its Job.
This is one from last night hatching.

Lori, I have a blind goose and fully believe she is happy and well adjusted. I raised her in a small grassy pen that was cleared of anything that she could hurt herself on with carefully selected companions that are very nice to her. I talk when I enter her pen, move extra slow, and make sure she knows where I am at all times. I used to not move anything inside the pen until I realized that she would listen for the sound of running water when filling pool, or the grain falling into her feed pan and make an immediate adjustment in her brain as to new location. She has gotten to where most people observing her can't even tell she is blind.

Are you sure your new gosling has no eyes or just has not opened them yet? Do you have a pic??

Still have 11 ducklings. They are 6 days old now. Flip and Flop (hubby named them after their disabilities ugh!) the 2 rolling duckies are
doing better. They still fall backwards when drinking and walk in a circle, but i figured out that its only when they get excited. They are not blind like i first thought, they can follow me in the living room just fine without hearing me. They are drinking their niacin and that seems to be what is helping them. Each day they are a little better. They are still seperate from the others because excitement makes them worse, and im afraid they will get smashed by scaring the others into a stampede. They are equal in the size of the other 9 so they are growing normally at the same pace. So thats another good sign. Only time will tell. Im hoping they grow out of doing back flips altogether. A grown duck doing gymnastics in the yard might be a bit weird for some people lol

LOL that would be a site and probably stop traffic[if you have any] Keep them on the niacin till 12 weeks old all the ducklings should be getting it. Glad to hear they are doing better.
