Hi Christine! Well they did externally pip early this morning but in weird spots (both in aircell and breathing fine, very chatty) so I will be curious to see if they are able to rotate ok to zip. So far sound robust so I will just keep watching and listening. Thanks for checking on them :)

Yay! I hope they continue to progress.

OK, here goes. Note:  It is a still air model.

Goose
Incubation takes 28 to 30 days at 101.5 to 102.5F
Sprinkle daily with warm water from 7th to 15th day.  Humidity about 75%.
Soak about one-half minute in water approximately 100F every 2 or 3 days from the 15th to the 26th day.
The last 2 or 3 days soak daily
Turn eggs completely over 3 times daily up to the 25th day.
Regular hours for turning such as 8am, 2pm, 8pm are beneficial.
Cool daily after the 10th day to 80-85F
Cooling takes longer than for chicken eggs, about 15 minutes.
Hatching takes 2 to 3 days at 101.5 to 102.5F.
Keep humidity as high as possible during hatch (80%).

Those are some pretty specific instructions. I think it's interesting to learn how things used to be done. How old is the incubator?

I also have a question. I have geese eggs in the hatcher right now and They did their internal pip yesterday morning. .. Only one did a outside pip.. Should drill a hole or something ..Or do you think they will be ok. I dont want them to suffocate in there. It has been at least 24 hours or more.

i think my baby hatched too early. the area where the yolk is absorbed is not fully closed. is there anything i can do?? please help!!

Place baby in a Tupperware container on warm damp towels and leave in bator. If no bleeding, then baby has a good chance of making it! Good luck!

That is a tricky question. I have a goose that eats a lot of egg shells/oyster shells and the last couple of babies have not been able to break shell. In a moment of fear, I pipped the shell yesterday of a gosling that had been peeping for 24 hours. The baby is still peeping 18 hours later, but has not made any pips on the shell, so I'm thinking I may have shrinkwrapped since I exposed membrane to dry air when pipping it. Not sure if I helped things or made matters worse.
Yay! I hope they continue to progress.

I believe it is from the 1970s, which was when my friend was a health science teacher in the public schools. There is another full page of instructions too.

An update to the baby I pipped........... I opened up egg and discovered baby was not positioned right and was also stuck to the shell by dried up membrane. I am amazed this baby was able to internally pip and he never had a chance to break the shell given his position. I got the baby out of egg and his abdomen is not fully receded, but given the strength of his peep, I think there's a decent chance he will make it.

my baby that hatched this morning was the same way. i took the top off of the egg and exposed the neck. it was in such an awkward position she never would have hatched herself. as of right now she is doing just fine. the abdomen is starting to heal up and harden. she is even trying to hop around. too cute. she also has a very strong peep!

To anyone who has hatched chicken eggs before..... how long after you hear chirping from the egg (no external pip that I can see) does it take to hatch?
