Let's have a gosling hatchalong!

Well I think accurate record keeping will prove to be the key and with a proactive approach to management of incubating eggs.

As I said our next batch should test our new management techniques and refine our incubation theories.

PSue - oh they're lovely and my favourite pic is where the adults have all gathered by the fence to greet them. They should thrive in the Spring sunshine and well done.

TexasGooseMum - you need to scroll down the topic in this section and read the Incubation Guide. The time gap is usually 12 to 24 hours but there are variations and its a guide time only.

Best of luck - Pete

I'm learning so much from this thread! I won't be hatching again for a couple years so meanwhile I will just soak in all this shared knowledge. I am grateful for all everyone shares! <3

beautiful babies!

Also have a bunch of popcorn babies in the Hatcher right now!
Have brought up over 20 OHIKI !!! These are my "Prize flock" of chickens!
1 Roosevelt gosling ~ Turned out to be a Sebbie Saddleback color!

I also got 9 africans drying upstairs in the brooder, another 7 drying in the hatcher & what seems like never ending pipping & zipping of 60 goose eggs! I hatched 3 of my 4 ducks too.

Pete, a friend gave me her old brower still air bator that I think is from the 70s. It came with a very interesting instruction sheet for how to incubate various birds. I am surprised at the details provided! Some steps seem pretty strange, although I can see how it would mimic a goose. I'll post them if you are not familiar with them and would like to know what it says.

I would like to see, just out of curiosity.

Hi Christine! Well they did externally pip early this morning but in weird spots (both in aircell and breathing fine, very chatty) so I will be curious to see if they are able to rotate ok to zip. So far sound robust so I will just keep watching and listening. Thanks for checking on them :)

OK, here goes. Note: It is a still air model.

Goose
Incubation takes 28 to 30 days at 101.5 to 102.5F
Sprinkle daily with warm water from 7th to 15th day. Humidity about 75%.
Soak about one-half minute in water approximately 100F every 2 or 3 days from the 15th to the 26th day.
The last 2 or 3 days soak daily
Turn eggs completely over 3 times daily up to the 25th day.
Regular hours for turning such as 8am, 2pm, 8pm are beneficial.
Cool daily after the 10th day to 80-85F
Cooling takes longer than for chicken eggs, about 15 minutes.
Hatching takes 2 to 3 days at 101.5 to 102.5F.
Keep humidity as high as possible during hatch (80%).

My three year old pair of Toulouse geese hatched 5 goslings all by themselves May 8th. I would say she sat on those eggs for 35 days or more. He was a diligent and loyal husband watching over her the whole time. They are a very busy family, traveling all over the yard and in and out of the pond. I am looking to sell the goslings. Two are spoken for but three still available if anyone close to seacoast NH or Maine is interested. Call my cell at 207-251-3899.

Looks like mom and dad are pretty confident that the goslings will come out of the water and follow them. Now I would be down there making sure nothing happens. Because there are snapping turtles in ponds and they eat baby ducks and goslings....

good looking group there. The hen with the goslings is a great shot. My hen won't sit, but it may be because of the horse checking in often.

I had luck with my incubator. Got 3 out so far, one is still hacking at the shell.
They weren't thrilled about turning around for pictures
