Just completing a very good hatch and have hatched another Buff from our Split/Buff pair and 2 Buff females from our Split/Grey pair.
That's us up to 6 Buff Dewlaps from 2 bloodlines so more than we hoped for this year and both more than happy with our results this season. I'll post some pics tomorrow

The Book of Geese it says 2.5 to 5lbs of Livestock grade Brewers yeast per 100 lbs. of feed or 1or 2 cups per 10lbs bag of feed.

I have about 25lbs of flock raiser left out of a 50lb bag so probably 2 1/2 to 4 1/2 cups? This will replace the niacin tablets?
I sprinkled it on their feed tonight they seemed to like it. I havent given any to Flip and Flop yet, i forgot to bring some to the house.

Yes it will replace their niacin tabs. I make fermented feed for my flock so I just scoop out 2 scoops for a 3gal. bucket and mix in. I'd like to find live stock brewers yeast for my flock, reg is pretty pricey.

Miss Lydia...I'm just starting on the whole "fermented feed" thing...Can you give me any pointers? I'm not sure I'm doing it right. My first batch I ended up throwing out because I felt like it didn't look right! LOL I'm so paranoid! Anywho, what all do you add to your batch? I don't have a HUGE flock of birds but I'd say with babies and everything I have near 50+ birds all together. I obviously do the chick batch separate and use starter grower for them rather than any sort of layer or maintenance. My first batch for the adults, I didn't have any ACV and someone on another thread said that brown sugar works so I tried it and for one, I used WAY too much feed but it never did start bubbling like they say it should and it was so soupy looking and somewhat sour smelling so I didn't use it. This batch I mixed in layer feed, scratch, rolled oats, some boiled eggs mashed up, and some greens...added water and a couple good glugs of ACV with the mother and stirred..I made sure there was a little water covering the top. It's been a couple days and it does have little bubbles when I shake the bucket a little but it still seems so runny...what am I doing wrong? What's the consistency supposed to be? Is it okay to mix it throughout the process or should I just be leaving it and only adding a little water to the top? Any way you could post a pic of what yours looks like?

Sorry to be an aggravation...I'm just afraid I'll end up making my birds sick or something! Like I said....I'm paranoid. AND I've been raising chickens and other birds for YEARS...you'd think I wouldn't worry so much anymore! I have another buddy on here helping me too but I'd love to get your input. THANKS!

Its been quite a busy time and out of the last 3 batches of eggs we're now up to 90% success rate which includes the Dewlaps.

I'll write more later but weight loss and stable conditions is the key to success. Strangely the eggs all hatched in the order of greater weight loss. The eggs with the greatest weight loss around 18% hatched first and the egg with the 15% weight loss was 18 hours behind!

We developed spreadsheets which lets us identify 'at risk' eggs at the early stages so we can be more pro-active in their incubation management.

Here's some pictures from the weekend hatch.

3 BRECON BUFFS, 3 GREY DEWLAPS, 3 BUFF DEWLAPS

BUFF DEWLAPS AT DAY OLD AND 1 WEEK OLD.

BUFF DEWLAPS.

For those who missed them its a total of 12 that hatched this weekend. This includes the 3 Cockateil eggs that my daughter Leah brought home from school after telling her teacher her Dad would hatch them. Now we've 3 minute orphans to feed 2 hourly!!!

Thanks Iain and about time I got to grips with the new techniques with that loss of a complete batch last month

We are very pleased with the results from the Dewlaps but of course the youngsters have to grow and be assessed for quality.

Any luck any getting a Buff female yet??? Surely the law of averages says you'll get one soon
