Let's have a gosling hatchalong!

I can imagine the loss of those eggs was hard, but glad you worked the kinks out. I assume you still have more eggs to hatch before your season ends?

You'd think I would have hatched a buff girl by now.... but nope!

My tally so far is 8 grey split to buff boys and 1 surprise bonus grey dewlap straight run from my broody, who by the way, FINALLY gave up yesterday and left nest. But I'm pleased with the success of my trio. Between Jasmine and myself, we have hatched 18 goslings so far, with more on the way. My next pair of eggs is scheduled for next weekend, with another pair 4 days after that, and so on for another 4 weeks. My girls seem to be getting near the end, but I have another 2 eggs from yesterday that Jasmine is attempting to bribe off of me.

Even if I do not hatch a buff girl, at least I have a daughter from my special African girl that got killed last week. She's by far my most precious hatchling this year.

I have sold most of my extra goslings, but still have the ones I plan to raise and breed next year. I have four white Embdens and my gray "Halfrican" Embden that were hatched 3/27 outside with my khakis and my rouen ducks. Altogether, there are probably about 50 birds in that flock. They are roughly all the same age. I put them in at night, but they all free range during the day in the yard, creek and pond.

In the last few days, my two muscovy drakes and my one Welsh harlequin drake have been terrorizing them in the creek and trying to mate with them. They are particularly attracted to the geese, for some reason. Usually, the geese can get away, but I worry about drownings or just general molestation by the drakes. Would a decoy be effective in deflecting some of their amorous advances? Or perhaps there is a better solution?

I don't necessarily want to pen anybody up as they all enjoy their freedom so much. I'm guessing the muscovies are going after the geese as both of my muscovy hens are sitting on nests and not available for mating.

I have two internally pipped today. I think one tufted and one white chinese. Pretty fair guess since thats the only two kinds that made it to hatch. None of my Mildred eggs made it past 2 wks. Should be a busy few days coming up. 11 due in the incubator and 1 under a hen. Hers will be a surprise, cant remember whose egg i gave her.

Total gosling SWOON

Now that I also just had to toss 7 eggs out of the 9 you sent last

(it was so hard to toss em' ~ you know the "maybe" if I give them another day....)
I know it was not the fault of the Master Packer. I know it was the "Postal Toss"

The ones I tossed were total light bulbs ~
But the 2 that are going strong is a GREAT
possible White Dewlap African
& the other is one of the Grey/Buff Dewlap eggs!

Now that's not funny.

Chicory is a grey split to buff gander, and if I understand correctly, there is a 25% chance to get a buff girl. Pete, is that correct??

So of course you'd hatch a buff girl.

she hatches ok!

Today was they day we were taking all the eggs away from the two girls. I took out bags yesterday and put them on top of the kennels they have laid their eggs in. This morning I was not doing too good my chest under the left breast was aching in front all the way to the back. But got my chores done. Went in the pen and let Grant and Samantha out and went to let Spicie out and he was sitting on the very edge of the nest. I thought awe how cute. Then I talked to them and got more than I thought. There was a gosling talking to me. She hatched a goslings. Just one. I was in shock because we were going to take all eggs away today. It took her over 30 days to hatch this gosling. We just left the eggs in there in case there will be more. That was a shocker to me....
Brought the gosling into the house and put it in a container in the bathroom with the other goslings so it can hear them. Doing fine so far.

As for my chest ach I did get it to stop pretty much because I have the right meds here to do so. But was getting worried when it stayed for so long. Was thinking about going to the hospital if it had not of clamed down. I pretty much rested today....

I'm sorry you are not feeling well.
