Shellie, congratulations on your new Dewlaps!! They are stunning. You are going to have some nice offspring methinks!
As some of you know, I put two Seb eggs into lockdown at the first of this month..Thursday afternoon one of them pipped..later on that evening the other pipped as well. The next morning I woke up to a beautiful, half fluffy gosling running around the hatcher, with the other egg half way zipped. Later that morning it hatched, and much to my dismay I saw the poor darling had a cross beak.
Introducing Beaky

and..Misty

Both goslings fluffing out inside by the wood stove after I pulled them from the hatcher

Sooo..we are going back and forth on whether we should cull Beaky, or wait and see how he does. Ideally, I'd like to find him a pet home, with someone who has lots of time on their hands to raise a special needs goose...but in west TX..that is going to be difficult. If anyone would like to give this sweet baby a home, drop me a PM. If he'd hatched out in a couple of months when we didn't have a BBQ coming up in a week, and a wedding the next I might be more tempted to keep him, but honestly I hardly have time to spare for my other critters. However, Beaky has made a print on my heart, so for now I'll be hand feeding him until we decide what the best course of action would be.
After talking with Shellie, we think Beaky is a white Seb gander, and Misty is either a white gander or possibly a buff gosling. However, I'll be excited to see what color they feather in.
I'll try and take some updated pictures today. I'll be feeding Beaky for the first time this morning, so we'll see how it goes.
