Let's have a gosling hatchalong!

Yea, I'm thinking that I would have to put something in mine for peace of mind. I would be paranoid that I would come home one day and one of them would have drowned because they stressed out because they couldn't get out. :/
Duckling may but I don't think an adult would but I know it's best to feel confidant when it comes to taking care of the flock.

Yea. My ducklings wouldn't be placed in there. It's just the adults that I worry about. I'm an "over protective mom".

Hello Everyone! I am in too.

I have 23 Pomeranian eggs from my girls set: So far I have 7 fertile and developing with the first three due to hatch March 11th.

Good luck everyone!

Can I join in on this? I set 4 "white goose" eggs on the 24th, and I've never done geese before so I may need some help.
I have read Pete's guide and it was very useful, but sometimes it's nice to have feedback on what you're doing.

Welcome! White goose eggs? Embden, Chinese? Where did the eggs come from?

Hi there.

Glad to see you here. Congrats on your eggs developing!!

Love the pics.

How does your stock tank work? Any special set up? I have been wanting one for a LONG TIME but didn't know if I could handle the daily cleaning.

As far as safety, any problems getting in and out?

Mine never figured it out..even though we had steps leading up to it. I'd need to be buried in the ground. It took several tries for me to get Daisy to STAY in the tank, and not fly out. You can easily put a filter/pump on the tank, and pump out the water when it gets nasty and water a flower bed/garden with it.

I plan on buying one of those huge round stock tanks, that 11' x 11', and have it buried in the ground. I think my fertility would sky rocket. The little pools I have now are okay, but they really need something bigger to breed in methinks.

You can see the pen we built for the tank, and the 'steps' leading up to it. However..after we built this pen and moved the tank into it..we found out we can't use the tank, as we have to have it for backup for the horses and cattle...oh well. I still plan on getting a large stock tank at some point.

I'd like to know too- love the look of them.

I use them as rain barrels- set behind the sloping roof of the bigger coops. They do have a drain near the bottom that you can hook up a hose to, but I haven't used them like that. Or as pools.

I don't know how Aspen does her but my dh built a ramp for our flock to go into and out of stock tank. even steps of wood or concrete would work.
Picture, pretty please?
Cool!! How are the steps inside built for them to get out? Do you have any pics so that I can get a visual? I'm scared that my geese and ducks may drown if they can't get out.

My Scovies just launch themselves out, plus my dh cut our stock tank down to 18" because even with the ramp a few were going out on the other side and hitting the ground hard, so now instead of 100 gal. it's only 50. I don't use anything inside both my geese have no problems getting out of this one, but a deeper one would have to have something inside I would think, maybe bricks or blocks? Mine is the solid rubber not metal.

No problem...didn't I see a picture of your Embden gander in it, somewhere??

Actually my geese prefer the kiddy pool for mating, yesterday when I emptied the stock tank I gave them the small kiddy pool to bath in and after 2 days of not mating in the stock tank they went into the kiddy pool and mated. Don't ask me why they like the kiddy pool better.

I am seriously thinking of not even using the stock tank and just getting the largest kiddy pool I can find.

I'm tickled to see this thread take off like wildfire.

It is so much fun to share the ups and downs of hatching with fellow hatchaholics!

I have sad and happy news.... Sadly, I forgot about the tricks I had to do last year to keep my cheapo styro bator stable and had some temperature fluctuations resulting in 2 of my 3 eggs quitting. I am debating on tossing the 3rd egg, but it has such a pretty spider that it seems like a waste. On the other hand, the last thing I need is a solo gosling unless I knew that one of my dewlap pairs would be willing to adopt it. In brighter news, I fixed my bator kinks and set 7 more eggs yesterday, so hope to see lots of spiders next week.
