What a precious gosling, so sorry you lost him..
First little guy of the season...sadly he didn't make it. I was SOOO heartbroken! He had a VERY long and strenuous hatch and the poor guy was just so weak. I did all I could but no luck. I laid down for a nap yesterday and woke up to him dead in the brooder. I did manage to get a couple pics of him before he passed. This is the first time I've ever lost a goose after hatch...it was devastating for me..I fall in love with every single one. Everyone keep fingers crossed for the next three...one's internally pipped, one has shadows, and one doesn't look quite right so idk about it. I hope this first baby isn't any indication of how this season is going to go! Oh..6 out of 8 little call ducks in the brooder now drying off...ughh this can be so depressing when it goes wrong! Good luck to everyone else.
cute baby... good luck
My hatch is not going so great. It's day 30 and the first two eggs passed trying to internally pip. Eggtopsy reveals malposition in that head tucked into belly. The last egg looked to be starting to struggle, so I jumped in to try to help. Not sure if this one is positioned wrong or just shrinkwrapped, because its beak is in top middle of egg close to where it should be for pipping. I was able to free beak/nares in time. It gave a big gasp as I opened membrane and stretched its beak open wide gulping in air. It's got a bit of veining in it, so has a long way to go until it is safely hatched out, but it is breathing strong.I don't screw up hatching it out.![]()
x2Welcome! Yes- lots of people starting (or continuing) now. I am going to keep setting as long as I have eggs, starting a new batch every week. Can't get enough baby goose love!
gotta love her imagimationMrsMagoo you hit it on the head they are scum. I did get it stopped with the help of another neighbor that raises chickens. She told them that i had tracking chips in my
chickens and that i could use my computer to see where all my chickens were at any time and that one missing hen was showing up near where their septic tank is lmbo shes a very blunt and creative person. Thank goodness that they were niave and believed her. I havent lost a chicken in 8 yrs other than to coons or dogs.
good luckHi thought I'd give an update. The first two eggs did die in their eggs, I eventually opened up one of them after a number of hours of inactivity. The inner membrane was stuck all over their heads other wise looked perfectly formed. We have since assisted three others in hatching, reviewing the excellent thesus by the chap from Suffolk, (sorry cannot recall his name) the first gosling ins now under the lamp and a total character the other two are in our brooder. My wife and I spent the whole night slowly wetting then to ease them out.
We have one other, still to pip external although the beak can be viewed from candling so we are being patient and will review again tomorrow.
Cracking site, happy easter.
so sorry

Here are all of the babies that hatched. I thought that I had 4 fertile eggs but I only had 3 fertile eggs and all 3 eggs hatched. The other 8 eggs were not fertile. i will move them to the brooder tomorrow.
I have to give credit to the OP for starting this thread and to EVERYONE who contributed to this thread and asked and answered questions for all of us to learn. THIS thread is an active learning thread and I would have NOT been able to hatch these babies if it were not for this thread and everyone who contributed to it. It was because of you all that I know how to hatch goose eggs. So thank EVERYONE on this thread who posted information on "how to". And to everyone who asked questions. It was because of YOUR questions and the answers/responses given that I learned what I have. THANK YOU EVERYONE again.
And here are my very first goose eggs that I hatched in my Brinsea incubator.

Me too J,My first hatch went horribly. All three died at different stages of pipping, so no 2013 goslings for me yet.On the bright side, I have plenty more eggs developing in the bator, so I hope the next scheduled lockdown goes better.
Hello " fowl friends" ...I just finished a hatch-a-long with
the Easter Hatch of chicken eggs....hatched blue EE 's
eggs. I live in Ontario where it was fairly cold as I was
saving my eggs, some may have been too chilled..
.had 23 hatch from original 42...more than I'd expected
under these conditions.
My incubator is clean and I've put the goose/duck racks in
and have started 12 goose eggs as of March 29,2013 ..12 pm...
Are there many members starting at this time ? I saw this thread
