Let's have a gosling hatchalong!

2nd gosling for the year already loves its siblings before they hatch LOL

This weekend, I noticed that one of the birds had either pecked the egg open or stepped on the egg which made the baby hatch out partially. It looks like the gosling is probably about 1- 2 days early. I brought it in and put it under the heat lamp and tried to keep it warm. The egg was not fully absorbed and it's eyes were still closed. It's still alive and it's making noise when I talk to it but I don't know if it will survive being pre-mature. Does anyone have any experience with a pre-mature gosling? What do you all think it's survival chances are?

If the abdomen has not bled, it may be ok.

I came home from work and three goslings went from just a pip to fully hatched and almost dried, the one in the photo is still the same, should I help it out now?

Iit has now been 30+ hours since it made the hole? The more important question is, would you rather help and have it not make it, or not help and have it not make it?

I saw a little blood. I hope he is ok when I return home from work. Thank you for your input.

All join the hatchalong , I have a hova bator filled with my mallards, and cayuga duck eggs and some mandarin duck eggs. and my little giant incubator with 4 goose eggs. got 7 from a nearby farm. one was infertile and another the air pocket kept moving around so it eventually died. and the other died from and unknown reason. all the other eggs are doing fine. they are on the 12th day today and almost cover the shell compleatly with veins. lots of movement.

My cayuga duck eggs will be mix ducklings as my female mates with my male khaki and sometimes the mallards. they are on the 11th day for the oldest ones.

ugh, I don't know??? I'm going to leave it alone for a little while still, it's been over 30 hours, it pipped yesterday around noon and just picked away at the hole for a few hours and then stopped zipping. 3 others hatched that were pipped after it had (it was my first to pip) and two more eggs are pipped now too. I don't think it's going to make it but I'm going to give it a few more hours and then see.

It sounds like a wonderful assortment. What kind of goose eggs?

ugh, I don't know??? I'm going to leave it alone for a little while still, it's been over 30 hours, it pipped yesterday around noon and just picked away at the hole for a few hours and then stopped zipping. 3 others hatched that were pipped after it had (it was my first to pip) and two more eggs are pipped now too. If it has been over 30 hours since it external pipped, I'd go in very slowly. If you decide to assist, chip away just enough of the shell to be able to see what is going on with inner membrane. Use qtips soaked in very warm water. Work qtip under inner membrane to see if membrane is stuck to body and/or if you see any veining in it. If you see veining, it is not ready to zip. If you have other eggs still hatching, add hot water to bator when you open it to grab baby to compensate for loss of steam. Good luck!

Well.... this week's hatch is finally done and while I lost the solo gosling 30 hours after external pip, all four of the ducklings hatched out strong.





Next week's hatch is only two goose eggs, one brown African and my 1st dewlap egg.
