Let's have a gosling hatchalong!

I'd like some feedback on how to raise my two sebly in about two weeks. Would the pair accept the sebbies? Would the sebbies kick the younger ones out of the nest? Id like to put them in the goose pen asap but could ralse them separately if nescessary?

Wow. Okay, so I have to add my wee issue to the numerous others on here asking for advice.

One of my sweet goslings that hatched last week has a red spot on the rim of its eye. Doesn't look like it bothers her (vent sexed by me, so probably a him. lol), but I am concerned. She does seem a little 'off' compared to everyone else, though not sure those issues are related. I don't believe the spot was there a couple of days ago, but I could be wrong.

Here's a couple of pictures:

Also, here is a picture of 'Turbo' (AKA iHop). He (again, VS by me, so likely wrong. lol) gets around pretty good by balancing on the 'good' leg and launching himself in the direction he wants to go. Determined little bugger.

I do tape the other foot to correct the bent toes, but Turbo just finished his aqua exercise and I didn't have it done yet. It's no coincidence that in all photos where he's moving, his right leg is in the 'up' position. It is never down... It seems locked at the 'elbow', though I can manipulate the hip.

Thanks in advance for any assistance ~ I turn to you guys WAY more than my books!

Hi. Difficult to judge just by description but I have covered the basics of assisted hatching on other threads. Just check under my profile. 48 hours post EP is a little excessive.
Before intervening I would assess for absorption of blood vessels and yolk sac using a good pen torch.
Finally are you sure this baby is correctly positioned? Or the gosling may have EP early due to inadequate moisture loss. The goopy appearence suggests prematurity.
This is not going to easy and I wish you best of luck.
Thanks for your help!

Pete.

Congrats on the 1st gosling!! Pics?? As for the other gosling, it sounds like the one I lost last week. It internally/externally pipped below air cell, but moved its way into position to crack external pip in proper location. It had made a big hole and was acting strong 27 hours post external pip, then suddenly passed away. It was very surprising and bummed me out. In hindsight, I wish I would have assisted it.
Man, maybe I should have helped it more this morning. I never know. I haven't lost one that I've had to help, but I have lost ducklings that I waited too long to jump in. I'm always afraid I'm intervening too early, plus the whole survival of the fittest thing. I hope he's still hanging on when I get home. Maybe I should start misting my other eggs 2x per day like you are.

So cute! I don't have any advice. I'm curious to see what others suggest for a "locked" joint.

Frankie, they are adorable. Not sure about the eye on the one and hope someone can offer some experienced advice for you. As for the locked joint, I'd probably get a professional opinion. Please keep us posted on your little ones' progress!

I'm wondering if one of the other goslings could have pecked him/her on the eye, I'd use veterycin spray, it's really good stuff and cna be used safely around the face. They are adorable.

Well, I lost one in the shell, but it wasn't the one I was worried about. That one finished hatching himself. His umbilical looks a little swollen, but I think he'll be ok. I don't think my eggs lost enough moisture.

Just hatched 14 Saddleback Poms. today. Two eggs left are pipped and still viable. Well satisfied as I put 24 eggs in incubator and some had some age on them as I was waiting to fill a tray. Girls are still laying and one has gone broody and setting on twelve eggs. I have 5 more under a Muscovy hen. Don't know what I am going to do with all these geese, but thought I would hatch them and hope there is a market for them. I f not they are still enjoyable to hatch and raise. I will try to post some pictures tomorrow.
