Let's have a gosling hatchalong!

I'm worried about my broody grey dewlap goose. She seemed good yesterday afternoon/evening, but is acting very weak and having trouble walking today. She also looks off color. She has been building a new nest next to the old box, but is spending a good portion of her time with the group. Either she or her companion laid a new egg this morning which was found by box, but not in newly made nest. Is there anything I can do for her???

Its so interesting to see the present Cabinet Incubators following similar designs to the Petersime. I didn't realise that the paddle created such a strong airflow when you described it as a tornado in the incubator!!!

When it spins around the drum you cannot see it because it moves to so fast. But If you do not get your lockdown dates right ~ If a chick hatches in the tray it falls & gets whacked by the paddle on there way down...

Also there's nothing wrong with setting vertically and I've done with exotic species for years with some research supporting the theory that it reduces the incidences of breech positioning. Maybe your results support this. however its the size of the Goose egg that concerns me and that they wouldn't fall out of the trays.

I have custom built trays with different heights out of a type of hardware cloth & I just secure it to the trays with zip ties so I can adjust & remove them easily. It also makes for alot of room

So I can set different sized eggs on the same rack. As long as they are in there snug with no movement in the rows they will be fine. But I have worked out the kinks ~ But that is only due to quite a few tumbles at first. You don't want to hear my bright idea on my 1st setting of 300 chukar eggs ~ that didn't turn out soo brite

If you do not check them regularly they can shift over time & become "loose" But as much as I candle & check them I don't really have that issue

Here is the tray inserts that I use ~

Do you know what kind of thermostat controls the temperature and where the temperature is measured? For example where do you place the mercury thermometers?

Here is some pics of where it is located & such (hope this helps)

GEEZ ~ I need to clean my bator again!!!

Amazing how fast they muck up when you hatch hundreds of eggs at once

At the moment we've had good results with our R-Com but they just lack capacity. We're considering a Cabinet Brinsea that's got similarities with the Petersime. You can get them in 190 or 380 (hen egg) capacities. All have three trays as shelves that tilt side to side with a hatching tray at the bottom of the unit.

This was my 1st bator I have ever had.... So I do not have alot of hatching advice in alot of the bators everyone else is using, but if you ever come across one BUY it ~ OR email me so I can!
The guy had two of them for $500 each & I am still kickin myself for not buying them both, but I was a newbie & had no idea what I was buying really, I had never hatched anything in my life.
When I was researching I was really leaning towards the Brinsea you are speaking of. They seemed to be really well made & had all the bells n whistles. But Then this one popped up on Craigsist. I drove out the same day it posted & the other one was gone that night after I came out.

They've got 4 fans in the top to circulate the heat but I think the smaller 190 will have the greater air flow as its the same design as the larger only not as deep. Their other new feature that's attracting me to them is an optional cooling period that can be programmed in to operate daily.

I don't know how crucial how much air flow is needed, but I know I have crazy wind in my bator. It will lift a towel off the hatcher if I do not have eggs weighing it down!

I can't believe I got 11 developing eggs from the two nests (5 are grey dewlaps). I tossed newly set duck eggs and was able to squeeze 8 into my bator, but not sure how to get the other 3 moved over before I lockdown my hatcher tomorrow. I'm happy with the surprise bonus eggs, but bummed because I don't have room to set the eggs I have been gathering the past few days from my select prize girls. Plus, I have two more broody nests to bust up and am sure at least one will have a large clutch of developing eggs. I may have to race out and buy a 3rd bator.

Um ...... Errrr...... Um.... You can box them up & send them to me

I mean if you don't have the room?

J, when my flock of ducks/chickens have been broody for a while they get Poultry Nutri Drench in the water for at least a week before hatch and after. and their lil ones are getting it when mama does. Haven't had a broody goose yet but I'd do the same for her.

I was just thinking about what I had on hand to add. I have pediatlyte that is newly purchased and polyvisol (without iron), although that is a year old and not sure if expired. I am 99.9% sure my neighbor has poultry vitamins too. I have sent my primary vet a text and email, but he is in Germany today, so not sure how long before I will hear back from him.

I love my Sebbie Pair but I was wondering do you think they have a little Fattie in them?

My pair is Tootsie & Rollie

& My Grey Goose hanging out with Rollie is "Roosevelt"
(who is paired with my other gander "Franklin")

Here is Franklin & Roosevelt

What do you suppose Roosevelt is?

I have my camera ready and waiting for them.

I almost made a boo boo with the 3 that are due next wednesday...i thought only two was still good when i candled last night. The 3rd wasnt moving and hadnt seen movement in a couple days. It was late last night so i decided to wait to toss it. This morning i went to toss it and thought ill check once more to be sure, THERE WAS WIGGLING! I almost killed it. Poor thing must have been napping when i candled. Hopefully all three will be ok.

I have 20 more eggs to set once the first 4 get done hatching. They are white, brown chinese and tufted, and a few crosses between the 3 breeds.

They are beautiful! I love Roosevelt's coloring. She looks like she has the body of a toulouse and the neck and head of a brown chinese. But that cross makes an african. Unless shes more than half toulouse. I dont know really, im just starting to experiment with crosses lol she is gorgeous regardless of what she might be though.
