Glad to see we are all having a good hatching season after a rough start. My five eggs in lockdown are rocking and rolling and should hatch out Saturday.

Best of luck hatching your eggs over the weekend, you're doing really well.

Hoping that you get your Buff Dewlap female and will be watching for news

The goose eggs I got from the farmer in the next town are at day 29 now. Peeping and rocking have been seen and heard. Some are Toulouse. Others are Embden/Chinese mix. He didn't mark them. I don't know that I'll be able to tell which are which. On a related note, of my 6 Embdens, 5 are yellow and fluffy with yellow beaks, and one is grey and fluffy with a darker colored beak. Does that mean I have four females and a male? I'm a total goose noob. In other news, I checked my farm calendar only to discover that my Ancona duck eggs are now on day 26 and one has already externally pipped. My welsh harlequins should hatch on Tuesday, and my muscovies and 2nd WH batch should hatch the next Tuesday. I guess the cayugas and sebbie/tufted romans are getting booted from the kiddie pool in my living room that I call a brooder. :)
Good Luck

Good luck with your pipping eggs everybody over the weekend

RG - they're really nice pens you've got ready there and I'm sure you'll soon have more Dewlaps to put in them.

DaisyMeadow - well done but sounds like 4 males and 1 female. Its the females that tend to have a darker saddleback pattern in the white breeds.

THX ! Pete whatcha think about the white african eggs I hatched? One is dark & the other is silverish? So If I pair them with a white african, will I get a 50% chance or more of hathcing white ? How does that work? Or if I pair with a african, will I get no chance of white?

Right now my pens are kinda over kill for just 2 geese, 5 ducks, 1 Tom turkey, and a small clutter of goslings !

Good morning, hatching friends.

RG - as you have a pale and darker gosling it does sound like you have a pair, the male being the paler dilute colour. If you then paired him to a White African you would get:

25% White (both sexes), 25% Dimorphic (both sexes - think of Pilgrims), 25% Grey (both sexes though males dilute) and 25% Saddleback (both sexes but males dilute).

That's quite a range for anyone's tastes but I think only the Buffs, Greys (aka Browns) and Whites are recognised colours but not 100% sure as I'm in the UK. My favourites are Buffs and Whites. This is our Buff Gander
