Let's have a gosling hatchalong!

Not baby honkers...just baby quackers. It's all I have while I wait to see if any of my goose eggs will hatch...only like 10 more days to see. TEN??? ahhhh

Just biding my time...

My last goose egg this round is zipping right now. Wont be long. All others doing great. Also got my run finished today and dog proof for the adult geese. First get them used to being in the run and homed a little more then they can go
where ever they want on the rest of the 40
acres.

Zoowee that pic looks like it should be a postcard. Very cute duckies. Makes me anxious to see mine.

looking forward to pics

You must have been saving the best for last! Any update on Gloria's eggs??

, Well, got 7 ducks so far in group 2 hatched. They damaged the shell on 2 eggs that were pipping, I took them out as fast as I could. Today I found another silky duck hatched. But I took the damaged eggs out, both dead in shell, filled, it . They had partially zipped, looks like they filled the shells, like they were too big to go all the way around. Think it may be from too high humidity or temps a bit low at times.... like a degree to 2.... Group 3 I am not adding water and vents open. Staying around 41-47% humidity. This is Ga. They were washed and I do spray them lightly, as it says it seems to help with dehydration....
One of the remaining fertile goose eggs is pipping... I may need to take out duck eggs, there is bad some smell, and I took out 2 dead and there are a few more pipped, but not sure if i will help or not , so frustrating, if I'd helped the others they may have made it....

I do have 2 more groups in incubator of duck and goose. 1/2 the goose eggs were tossed yesterday, not fertile( 1st yr. Sheltlands) seems only about 30% are fertile , 3 females, 2 males , one is a year older.
later update. opened duck eggs, all dead in shell, 1/3 externally pipped, 1/3 internally pipped, 1/3 not int. pipped... arrghhh

One, egg, I'd forgotten and left in incubator was pipping, so I put in hatcher last night, he almost got tossed, he had pipped, but when chipping away , he gave a shove, broke a piece off, and I hastily , put him back in hatcher! So I have only the5 goose eggs in there, One is pipping and peeping, about 1/3 way round, I don't think my air cells are dehydrated enough. I also observed that the Dutch Hookbills dehydrated way more than the silkY ducks and goose eggs...hhhmmm, they also hatch a day or so earlier....

Thank you J and Miss Lydia I am excited with this gosling. It kicked out of the egg and I went and got a towel and took it in my bed and got the blow dryer out and blew it dry. Boy did that baby enjoy me doing that. It just cuddled right up to me as if to say OH how good that feels.

One of Gloria's egg has externally pipped but seems to be in no hurry to finish getting out of the egg. The other Gloria egg is still rocking. Gosh I am having a hard time to try not help it is too soon. Guess I am ready to see what we have from her.

mominoz, congrats on the ducks and best of luck with the pipping gosling!
