Let's have a gosling hatchalong!

Hello everyone I'm new to the forum and on the 3th of may, 2013 I received my hova bator 1588, and on the 5th placed the 1st ten eggs from my Chinese goose. 1st time incubating eggs and been looking at pete55's guide which has been very helpful. So far 3 of the eggs were not fertile and lost 2 when I had to remove them from the automatic turner because the little trays had broken due to getting stuck with one another as they turned. I just change the baskets to new trays and spread them one spot apart. So far I'm on my 19th day and the 5 remaining eggs look healthy and growing strong. I'm keeping a humidity of 40%~45% in the incubator I hope this is ok. I don't really get the whole letting the eggs cool and misting them??? I have not done it. I'm kinda scared of having to handle the eggs too much so I opt for leaving them alone. I hope this does not affect them too much. I do have a question and that is when should I remove the automatic turner on the 24th day or the 27th day kinda at a lost here but sure would appreciate the info/help/advice for this noob. Its been a very fun project really looking forward the seeing all 5 hatch that would make my summer =). Thanks to you all and glad to be here.

And just a warning, the following are not goose pictures. Please don't hate me for showing off my other stuff here.

I guess that if you are a goose purist, you can look away now.....

Here is my Muscovy mama with her 12 (!) ducklings, taking them out for a walk to show them off.

The puppy loves her ducks!

And mama bunny let me take pics of the kits she "hatched" this week.

All right, diversion over. It's safe for the goose purists (or goosists?) to look again.

Hi, Chucho,

I don't use an auto turner, so I can't answer your question. But I'm sure there are many on here who do and should be able to answer it. Best of luck with your remaining eggs!

Thank you Mrs. DaisyMeadow. The eggs all look like in this pic I used from pete55's guide except they have more of a dark mass towards the back. I'm praying that they are developing good and all 5 hatch.

Your new baby ducklings look beautiful. I liked the light brown and yellow one best.

MY GOODNESS YOU FOLKS KEEP ME BUSY! I'm gone for a few days and come back to like ten pages to read through!!! It fills me with joy to see so many successful hatches going on for all of you! Although my goosies are done for the year and I've only one, now quite large, baby girl to show for it, I have the following due to hatch:

5 Buff/Gold Laced Brahma chicks
4 Buff Call Ducks
1 Partridge and 1 Gold Laced Cochin (shipped eggs...ugggh)
3 Peach Pheasants
5 Buff Call Ducks
10 Blue Partridge Brahma (shipped eggs...yay!)

and tomorrow I'm adding...drum roll please....SEVEN Buff Dewlap eggs from Alison Grell's birds! The air cells were a little wonky but I'm SOOOO hoping I get at least one baby to hatch out of these! I have a question about these...I've got two broody cochin hens out here...do any of you think I should put one egg under each of them and then do the other five myself...think it will increase my odds any?

I also got my lavender and lavender columbian brahma chicks shipped in last week! They're adorable and I can't wait to see how pretty they'll be full grown!

Sorry, couldn't help meeself.

River...aka JAZZ...can you PLEASE tell me what a "Fritter" egg is? I'm so confused by your terminology...I need some sort of code breaker I think! LOL

Very cute babies! I had a goose egg under my hen, a game x barred rock, she did great and it developed well. I thought she jumped ship two days ago while it was internally pipped so i took it from her. She hadnt abandoned it though she was eating OOPS! Anyway it hatched in the bator yesterday, healthy little roman tufted. The hen is not happy that she did all that work without seeing results.

Almost started a new thread to ask this but then i thought why not ask here since baby pics get plastered here....

Does anyone have a pic of a baby grey dilute African or a buff african(forgive me if im wrong i thought i had seen lighter africans) has any of you hatched any? I have a chinese gosling that hatched, father is brown mother is white. Shouldnt be much different than crossing a white african with a regular african. Hes not the only one of his kind that hatched but he is lighter than his siblings.

From what I've been told, crossing a grey African to a White can produce a lighter grey with a white chest...don't know if this is right or not but it's from a breeder friend of mine who has all three colors of Super Africans. I'll see if she has any pics of any. I wonder if that bird would then be considered a grey/split to white? If so...would breeding it back to white give both grey and white babies? I'm betting Pete will know the answer to this one! I imagine the white gene works a bit differently than buff though...but I really have no clue!

I bet she is! YOU got to have all the fun mom! Thanks though...I think I may try it with at least one egg seeing how I've had so many "issues" here...and that's with the eggs laid here at home! I can only imagine how hard it's going to be with shipped eggs! I keep falling back to how I got started with my group though....all of them came from shipped eggs so there's a good chance I could get at least one baby! I sure do hope so!

When i first bought the chinese geese i found a thread asking if the two colors crossed would they be a cross breed or something like that, so i asked on that same thread what could i get if mine crossed and Pete reffered me to the color/genetics guide and there was a rare grey dilute african gander on there. He basically said its rare but possible. Mostly i could get pieds. I wish i could find a pic of a gray dilute gosling of that breed to compare. Mine may not be a dilute but he is noticeably lighter.
