Let's plan a Quail egg hatch... set 'em Sept. 1, hatch 'em Sept 17-19+

I'm shooting for 60-65 degrees... have hatched eggs shipped through the ol' SWC and SEC summer, and countertop eggs which sat @ 78 degrees for a week.

I am only collecting like 3-4 a day from the largest white hens I have, so want as many as possible to be in the "zone"...

I keep thinking how "hens in the wild" would dig a shallow, cool, damp nest and half-cover the eggs with dirt while laying a clutch

Oh yeah, I was gonna ask, what is the correct holding temp for eggs? I usually just keep them on the counter, but I know that is too warm, especially since I keep my house at 82 (yeah, Im one of them that is always cold and love the heat.

I have a little wine cooler where I am aging my (homemade goat milk) cheese. I have it at 60. Would that be better than 82 countertop? I collected my first ones tonight too. I have 89 in the bator due to hatch this weekend, so will be perfect timing.

That wine cooler at 60 would be the ultimate hatching egg storage place.....

was gonna ask what everyones collecting window was lol. now that you people have enabled me, i think i will collect from my big rosetta hen and the golden god knows what. throw those in the bator and that will be it for this year, i'm serious! no more! lolha, we'll see how long that lasts haha.

So some are collecting now? seeing as i am only doing some from a couple hens i think i will start now too then.

let the count down begin!

just confirmed shipping on one batch of quail eggs for the 29th so hope that works. Close enough I figure . Hoping my quail will start laying soon.

I want to collect for about a week, that should give me 35-40 eggs. But I'd like to have at least 40 birds to take to the sale in October, so I might have to collect a bit longer.

You guys are terrible...I really hate having 'big' quail hatches....they just stink too much

X2 I hate huge batches of them. If I hatch over 25 or so it stinks way too much.
