Lets play "Where is the storm"

Well, it looks like we still have a few hours to go before it's done, and it's still billowing away out there.

This is when it was first starting at sun-up.

I put up 6 mil clear plastic with a staple-hammer on all of my coops- the people doors are on the north. The plastic is fastened to the ground with garden staples. It makes a tunnel in front of the doors so no drifts occur and it blocks the 30mph winds. If you do it so its sides hang down so you can garden staple them to the ground, too, it will stay up even in nasty winds.

I did the same with the tiny broody coop my 2 mommas were in, but it got so horrible out I put them in the banty shanty, because I fully enclose the run for those kids in plastic during the winter so they have a bigger inside space. It's a good thing, too, as it's 2 feet deep on top of the plastic!!

YUK!!

Hey chicks4kids! My daughter lives in West Lafayette IN and told me that everything was closing down by 4 this afternoon. We were just out there Sunday - it is a 3 hr plus drive from here in NW Ohio. I bought out all the hand warmers from the hardware store today so that if we lose power I can at least keep the incubator warm. It goes into lockdown tomorrow and I am hoping for a good hatch - 28 of the eggs looked good at the last candeling Saturday. I have moved all of my parrots cages in from our porch so I can shut off the outer edge rooms and keep the core of the house warm in case of power outage. My parrots are a bit disgusted because they can fly free in the front porch that is their normal home - in my living room I don't want 13 birds flying free! I keep telling them it is only for a couple days!

Those glass oil lanterns get super hot. Unbelievably hot. I wouldn't trust one inside a plastic tote- no way- not me!!!!!

I see you huddled around the heater with your babies!

At least they're cute!

Reports on the news just said that I-70 is closed from Kansas City to St. Louis. They think they've got all the cars off of it, but they can't tell....

It's ugly out there.

I'm glad I bought a little generator yesterday. I just couldn't deal with the idea of nearly 400 eggs going without any heat if we lost the power. I can snuggle 100 chicks with my kids, and I've hatched in my bra in a pinch, but no one has bras big enough for 400 eggs!!

We have a gas oven, so if it all goes down, the chicks get the generator and the humans crowd around the stove...

Got my priorities straight!!
