Let's Show Off Our Meaties....

greenfamilyfarms It's what you do for them before that matters. Maybe you can find someone that can help you the first time.

Making sure they have clean....water and area that they live in.

Good food (we all know how much they love food)!!! Whatever you choose to feed them.

My Cornish X are 12 weeks old. We process 3 to 6 on the weekends.

Plus we process any that may be showing signs of trouble walking...(Very few have)

The two elders in these pics were 11 weeks at the time and the babies in the background 4 weeks. The older ones just got processed this last Wednesday at 14 weeks and man I wish I would have got some pictures before then! They were both 8 pounds after plucking and cleaning.

My experience is pretty limited but I'm much happier with the health and activity of my second batch compared to my first. The difference is I fed the crap out of the first batch and didn't even range them until about 9 weeks. They grew fast but didn't do much - walking alone was such a chore for them! Those in the new batch have been ranging all daylight hours since 4 weeks and only receive about 1/8 pound feed each per day - the rest is all bugs and grass! They're much more active and happy (it seems) and their legs are filling out a lot better as well.

These guys are 13 weeks. Took one over to the neighbors house Friday. They were going to put it on the rotisserie until they felt how heavy it way. They said they didn't want there rotisserie to break.

I agree with louis.... The daylight free ranging has greatly increased the strength of there legs and heart...

I thought that maybe they would be tougher because of the age...

However, I have found that not to be true.

Plus... it's nice having leftovers for the next days lunch...

Edited because I don't know how to count....

I don't have any meaties, and I was just in awe of how much thicker their legs and feet are than the layers I keep. And their head looks so small too it's kind of funny. These much be like those huge juicy chickens that they roast and sell hot at Costco.

The birds look so sweet and calm though. I want one now, maybe two. I might be tempted to eat it though. I'm such a wienie about the kill. I CAN DO IT! Thanks for sharing guys and gals.
