Lets talk about goats!

Its cl. I took Stetson in today for checkup too. Think that first vet was a quak. He miss identified the eye issue we got him with and apparently the eye is dead now. Also found a small lump in his neck. Going to try and deal with the cl. Does anyone have any suggestions for anything else I should be doing for him beyond what I've mentioned earlier? Picked up some goat nutri drench and forgot to mention that hes now eating the minerals since separating them. I just can't believe how our first goat experience is going. I'm finally mad enough to contact animal services myself on the woman. I still feel bad doing it but I don't care anymore. This just sucks.

Oh gosh I am SO sorry :( are they gonna remove the eye or just let it be? Were you planning on getting more or just keeping the two brothers? From what I've read CL is super manageable as long as you're not breeding/selling/etc.

I know it's not fun but you are doing the right thing by reporting her. She's obviously not capable of taking care of her animals and they need to be moved to people/places who are capable.

I would also be calling that first vet and asking what in the heck their problem is. Horrible protocol, bad medicine....uck!!!

The vet said the eye can stay and it isnt painful. He called it a raisin? I pride myself in normally doing enough research before getting into something but I didnt with these goats. I just feel so bad. I should have asked more questions, should have checked out the first vet better, should have realized Ford wasn't normal, didnt even realize Stetson couldn't see out of an eye. He doesn't turn his head or anything to give it away. Just worried I'm missing something to help Ford deal with the stress of this.

Your doing great. I don't know how you feel about giving shots but the little one would benefit from Vitamin B complex shots. Helps the rumen stay healthy and boosts appetite. I love the stuff. Plus what they don't use they will pass thru their urine so you don't have to be quite so wary about over dosing.

Because @cassie was helping me by pm and I told her how he's kinda spacy and keeps standing with head against the wall. He is 32 lbs and its says 5ml per 100 lbs. Shots freak me out but I'll do it just not sure what size or where to give them. I grabbed 20g 1/2 inch, 20g 1 inch, and 20g 1 1/2 inch needles.

I don't know if more research would've helped you here :( so many underlying issues and no clues to tip you off. At least they are with you!!!

Give him 2 ml with the 20g 1/2inch as you don't need to go in far. Best place to give it is behind the elbow in the lose skin. It's easy, I promise. Give it for a few days and see if he perks up. Also, have your vet test for copper deficiency. That will make them lathargic and crappy looking.

Thank you everyone. I hope this helps. I gave him a little less then 2ml I think because I missed a little. I have anxiety issues and apparently giving shots is a pretty decent trigger lol. Hoping eventually I'll eith feel better about doing it or won't have to do it as much. He is so skinny its hard to find loose skin. I'll update you all tomorrow. We're still new to the hobby farm life and I'll consider it a pretty big win if I can get him better. He is so sweet. His brother is having a hard time without him but I'm trying to spend more time out with him. Its been raining for like a week straight so its hard. I'm definitely ready to deal with the cl and I really appreciate having somewhere to come for help.

Well I think its helping! Hes alert today and hopped out of chicken coop on his own. Still shaky and still have a long way to go but I think the vitamin b was an issue. Going to dose him again today. Its raining and cold so I think I'm going to keep him in coop for the most part.

That's awesome!!! Does Ford seem to miss Stetson as much as Stetson misses him?

No everytime Stetson pushes his way in coop while I'm checking on Ford, Ford kinda turns away. Hoping when he gets stronger and Stetson gets castrated (should have done it awhile ago but the guy that was going to show us how was always busy. Vet is going to do it next week) that it'll be better. Going to give him another shot in a bit. Hoping it'll help even more.
