I hope you get planted soon! Summer will be here before you know it!

Yeah. I usually plant Memorial Day weekend or the weekend after. That's about when it's above freezing at night and the danger of snow has passed. Of course, one year we got snow in MID-JUNE! I lost all of my vegetables.

I have to plant hybrid everything to get any veggies since our growing season is so short.

I really need a green house!

What kind of lettuce is that in the bottom picture?

Mesclun salad mix from Burpee.

From the pic it looks like your volunteer lettuce is higher than your planted ones. It is always amazing to me to see how early the volunteer lettuces come up. Very tasty looking!

I really need a green house!

I'm turning my dog kennel into a greenhouse. I bought an $80 blow away with the first gust of wind greenhouse and placed it over my dog kennel (which was for my chickens originally). It has a door, even.

So when the plastic wears out, my plans are to just wrap the whole kennel in rolls of plastic. I will keep the roof supports from the $80 greenhouse. Here is a pic (albeit far away):
You can see it on the right.

It is higher, and volunteers always seem to do the best.

Well, DH & I were finally able to get both gardens weeded & tilled yesterday!

We had some Sumatra help, as well!

I brought a few in with us and they LOVED eating seeds, worms and bugs they found.

I am hoping I'll be able to plant it this weekend (Memorial Day!) I think it will need to be weeded one more time but then it should be good to go!

Sounds like your Sumatras have you wrapped around their little "toe!"

"Pick me! Pick me!" (they all said).

LOL It's funny...all of them, I can pet--they will all eat out of my hand and fly from the ground to my arm for treats (except the roo) but when I try to catch them--you'd think I was killing them!

Then, once they are transported to the garden, they calm down--peck and scratch and dirt bathe...and then they calmly walk from the garden back into the coop.

OUTSTANDING lettuce! I so jealous! Ive never done well with lettuce and it is already too hot here. Ill try again this winter now that Im actually on a farm and not the burbs.
