Currently my only baby chicken is the biggest bird on the property, Big Red. He's a total baby, if he wants scritches he wants scritches, if he wants up, he wants up. I'm raising the serama in the same way though. The landraces it's another reason as to why I'm not baby-ing them. They are free rangers at heart, so they need to be predator wary. Most importantly though, I go to great lengths to are sure one doesn't get stolen. If they're wary of people, it's much more difficult to get caught, plus they'll be much more in tune with their other chicken friends, which means they'll run away long before a human can get to them

Is that actually a problem in your area, where people will steal your chickens??

Ehhh. If it stays in your yard, then it's safer. If it, for whatever reason, decides it's a good idea to leave, I personally believe that there's a risk. But I've had it happen once, so I don't want it to ever happen again. That's partly why I band them as well. It's a reminder that "hey, if you try to snatch me up and eat me, my owner will be very pisssed at you"

There already is a guard dog guarding the property (as is the csse with most greek households), she's done a good job (she isn't mine). Although if any animal leaves the property, no guard dog can help. Quite a few years back actually, there was a brief period where we didn't have a guard dog. One, maybe two weeks. In that small time frame, our rabbits were lost. The verdict is still our on that one, but there was no sign of a struggle, no fur left behind, or blood. An is definitely the end goal, since I'll then have the opportunity to free range at night as well (since the current dog can't be in with the chickens)

Yup. I've got my eye on two more eggs that I might need to take out before or during lockdown, but for now all is good again. This one had a blood ring, so it did develop a little before quitting. Oop I didn't throw it well enough it seems, I'm detecting a stench in the air
