If not a dog, definitely more barriers of some kind. Anything chewable doesn't work and holes bigger than a 1/2 inch need to be covered.

Yeah, the holes are definitely bigger than half an inch on the wire (not chicken wire, I don't love chicken wire too much) but it has kept my birds safe from the start. The only way a predator could get to them is if they had their heads sticking out the wire, or they were very very close to the wire itself, otherwise a fox can't reach them

Thank you :hugs . I'm pissed at the fox more than anything. At least she was gone when the fox got to her, otherwise she wouldn't have been close enough to the fence for a fox to grab her head
Yes you need to out wit that fox before it does more damage. Once they know where they can get a meal, they get persistent.

As long as none of the birds sleep or roost next to the wire and the fox definitely can't get in, it shouldn't be too much of a problem. But still, I hate when they lurk and scare birds, dang foxes!

Yes, all the roosts are far far away from the wire. She was probably hone when the fox came

Poor girl, she had a good life with you. 🐔❤ Losing birds comes with the territory of keeping chickens, but it's still quite heart shattering when it happens. :(

How is our wonderful Cruella and crew doing today?

This was an OK passing to accept. I'm just glad it most likely happened post mortem. Cruella and her brood are doing amazing, today they got a new log to climb on!

Oooh, those look like fun! Chicks love to hop, climb and play on things. It's good for building muscle, this is stuff that would do in the wild!
