. It's been smelling smokey from the wildfires, but no smoke has come our way, the birds are OK for now

Aww.... there they are! :love Cruella is growing some adorable babies. ❤ The light colored chick still has no tail. Sure sign of a cockerel. :p Everybody looks fabulous! 💖

Yep, he's been acting like a teenage boy since day 3. :p Have you thought of a name for him yet? :D 3 weeks old already, time sure is flying!

Haven't thought of a name to be honest. I can't call him Kolovos Jr, that's for sure. But yeah, time does fly (pun intended). Soon we'll see I'd Cruella will show them the boot or if she'll be one of those mothers that keeps the babies around to have extra fluff for future hatches, something really common with serama I've found

Most of my broodies and babies hung closely together until at least 3 months of age, some even longer. Some moms give males the boot when they start crowing. Cruella seems like a devoted mom, she will no doubt hang on to them for several months to come yet.

Interesting! Somehow I have a feeling Cruella is the booting type. But you're right, she's very devoted. Maybe she's into tough love. Anyhow, the pullets can stay for as long as they'd like. If Cruella doesn't give the boot, the male will get the boot from me. Lady Gaga is going in that pen soon, and I don't want him to get hurt by the LF chick, he's tiny!

Every broody is different! And of course her hormones could fire up at any time and get her setting again. She would definitely boot them all if she goes broody. Definitely protect Lady Gaga, that young boy will soon be as big as he is!

Here's a few more pics. Still six chicks, found an egg under her that had been partially pecked open (membrane intact, big chunks of shell gone), baby was dead. Yolk not absorbed. One egg was pipped and peeping, I'm almost tempted to take it inside to the 'bator to hatch, but if it can't make it out and survive on it's own, then so be it. I'm learning tough love.

I also keep reminding myself that the high mortality is most probably due to falling off the rocky ledge. Honestly, how only one of them cracked is anyone's guess!

So the ones with the spots on the head, is that a Barred thing?

There's one more light blue that is a momma's chick and doesn't like to come out to visit. :lau
