LGBTQ+ Poultry Keepers

I've also been going through a goose phase. My neighbours are enough to keep me from getting some, thankfully
I've been researching the different breeds, and may get either Emden (but so plain looking!) or Chinese. From what I read, the Chinese make great livestock guardians. If I get those, I'm going to try to get a brown male and white female. As for the Emden, I'd be getting eggs.

I also plan on getting a new incubator, as well as a brooder plate. After that, all my tax money will be gone! :lau

So around one inch in hight? Google says that's about two and a half centimetres. Those nests look so extra, I love it!
The first nest was a communal nest. Feel the need to incubate eggs? Check the communal nest, there's always a pile of eggs daily. 🤣

The second nest was still in progress by a pair intending to brood their own eggs. The male does most of the nest building, this nest got more elaborate a few days later.

I was looking at the toulouse when I briefly considered geese instead of ducks last year

I'm also liking the Chinese, although I hear they're LOUD. Otherwise it's going to be either Africans, or Roman Tufteds, which I've seen in person, and are really neat

Definitely dissimilar nesting habits compared to chickens, but the result is much more beautiful. Same thing with ducks. Both creat/build better nests than chickens Ialso find the pairing habit of quail kind of fascinating.

Recently watched a documentary on all the North American quail species, it was very interesting!

Honestly, I don't like the looks of either the Emden (too plain) or the Chinese, although the knob isn't as bad as in the African. I woulda gone for Africans as they are bigger (more meat when they produce young) but the combination of the knob AND the dewlap made me go :sick! Plus, the ganders can be aggressive, even after socializing.

And anything plain white just doesn't do it for me. I'd love to get the American Buff ones, or Pilgrims, but they are not good guardians.

And if you want LOUD, the combination of ducks screaming their heads off for no reason (see any of @WannaBeHillBilly 's videos) and roosters crowing at all hours will give the geese a run for their money.

I should just stick with nice, quiet Muscovy. ;)

I... am doing something silly. Again. Bringing in four new ducks. Three females and a male. Looks like a white layer, a Buff, and a Blue Swedish, and the drake is Pekin. Won't be able to keep the drake though.

They're all two years old. Found them in an add online.
