Oh gosh, I am so sorry you lost some Lithops!Oh those are so very pretty, and so very healthy! Your collection is amazing!
I've never heard of a lithops splitting so early, it may just be getting ready to flower, it possibly a lithops with the "opposite" cycle? Not sure
As for what's been going on here, the heat has been hitting us hard. I lost my favourite lithops; it got dehydrated so fast, that the waterings it required killed it. I've also got another cactus that needs a chop. For some good news, I repotted most of the "rare" collection, and some are looking really good. I've yet to successfully pollinate either the gymnocalycium, or the astrophytum, but they're almost constantly in bloom! View attachment 3901135View attachment 3901136
Succulents and cacti are quite easy to keep alive, I do way better with them than I do with regular house plants. Give cacti a sunny window, water them a couple few times a month and they grow into beauties! Just resist the urge to water too often!
I LOVE spiders,do you have any Tarantulas by chance?Do you guys mind spiders or can I show some or my horror hamsters too?
I don't want to scare anyone.
Oh gosh, I am so sorry you lost some Lithops! They are quite touchy little things, aren't they?! I lost the middle plant, the double white. It never grew any roots and it just withered away. Those two you have look super healthy! I will keep you posted on the one that appears to be splitting. I can't wait to see how mine do over winter!
I love that Pincushiony cactus, is it a Pincushion? Gorgeous plant!!![]()
I have plenty!I LOVE spiders,do you have any Tarantulas by chance?![]()
Yes I can't wait to see their flowers! I've heard they can skip they're winter shedding? How do they know its winter? I use a grow light, they do get 3 or 4 hours of morning sun though. I will start adjusting the lamp light less every day as summer winds down. They definitely are! At least I have all my others, and they're wonderful succulents. You're going to love overwintering them; you know that Autumn and Winter aren't my favourite seasons, but finding gorgeous yellow or white flowers brings me so much joy. Such unassuming little things, but so rewarding!
I had to look up what the pincushion cactus was. It looks like mostly mammillaria? That one's an Astrophytum Asterias Hybrid. One of my faves, it needs repotting too
