Yes the Mammillia group is just so interesting to me, some of them have the most interesting spine configurations! I am hooked on this group now.That makes sense. If they can't tell by temperature fluctuations, and they can't tell by light hours, then it makes sense that they won't split. At the same time, I don't know if that means that they'll also skip on flowering or not. Adjustments to the lighting schedule is a very good idea!
Your feather cactus is gorgeous, looks so unique! I think you're right, it does look like a mammillaria. I too love the mammillaria group. Such easy cacti, and very easy to flower. Pretty too!
