LGBTQ+ Poultry Keepers

I think of the bird more than me. A bird that is one day, week, month old has experienced life, and knows what awaits him/her. A bird who has seen and done it all has enjoyed life for a long time, hanging around with its friends, or whatever else it does. It has lived to the fullest. After all, I'm not there every second of its life, but its heart and its brain is. And the older bird has a much nicer closure, having seen all sorts of wonderful things. The chick on the other hand, hasn't experienced anything beyond its brooder. It's a very anthropo-centric way of thinking, but one that makes me feel better
You are very empathetic, more of humanity should feel what you do. :hugs All creatures have life awareness and none of them want to die. Each life has equal value no matter how long its been alive.

I eat some of my birds, so I would have to disagree. Some birds have more value than others to me. For example: an annoying cock's life worth less than a cute hen's.

Just because we choose to eat something doesn't mean its life doesn't have value. In the grand scheme of things, both lives are equally important, we just decided to eat one, and love on another. But that's just how I feel. Eating something doesn't take away its value as a life

Of course Koutsi had to pass in the most gruesome of ways. The fox struck again. It broke the plastic wire that was in place to deter it from finding the actual wire, and then squeezed its nose through the normal wire and bit Koutsi's head off. In my mind there's no way it could've reached Koutsi is she hadn't already passed, she had to have been really close to the wire, something a live chicken just never does, no matter how sick

Oh I can't tell you how sorry I am Fluffy, :hugsyour heart must be aching today. 💔😢 You've had enough losses this week, you didn't need another. At least she had passed already. You gave her a wonderful life. :hugs

I'm thinking we really need an LGD, as well as a second layer to the wire that has kept all birds willing to move their heads five centimetres away from it, it seems
If not a dog, definitely more barriers of some kind. Anything chewable doesn't work and holes bigger than a 1/2 inch need to be covered.

Thank you :hugs . I'm pissed at the fox more than anything. At least she was gone when the fox got to her, otherwise she wouldn't have been close enough to the fence for a fox to grab her head

When you take a life to eat, you should be appreciative and thank the creature for giving its life to you. Your judgment on whether or not to eat cockerels shouldn't be a reflection on the value of their lives.
