Dumb question but I haven't had chicks in a few months.
How old should they be before I let them free range under supervision?
Currently they've only been in the outdoor brooder to help socialize them with the rest of the flock without them touching

If the temps aren't too cold, they can go outside any time for 10 or 15 mins. Make sure they can't wander off or get stuck somewhere and I'd watch the entire time.

I just wing it. If they're feathered mostly and I'm comfortable outside for a short bit in a sweatshirt, I'll take them out and watch them until I'm uncomfortable. Then we go back inside. Other times I just kick them out when it's tolerable and they're feathered and just make sure they aren't stupid at night

I get about 36 hours of horrible (but not nearly as bad as they could be apparently) cramps that i can usually muscle through if i drink a lot of caffinr and ibuprofen. After that, some back pain and tenderness but that's about it painwise. Unfortunately I'm just very heavy too.

People are different. Some have them super heavy, others light, and some have cramps and other side effects. Did you ever get it checked out by a doctor though?

I was very fortunate when it came to the monthly thing. Not too bad, and even menopause wasn't too bad. (Hubby might disaggree, lol.)

Yeah, this is way too true.

My neighbor had a heart attack in early December. She's slowly recovering, but keeps having to go back to the hospital for various problems, like shortness of breath. She's only 10 years older than I am.

It was a wake up call for hubby and me. I think he's taking his health much more seriously now than every before.

Oy! Don't get me started on growing old!!!

I just had a talk with my doctor's office, and I'm technically diabetic now (very lowest diabetes reading), as well as have high cholesterol. But I blame all that on my poor diet. I'm trying to do a bit better, but until my disability benefits come in, it's easier to fill myself with carbs (rice, potatoes, and beans) than veggies and fruit. It's so much cheaper to eat badly. And of course, processed 'foods', full of chemicals and crap.

Considering what kind of impact this junk food has on our health, I'm surprised these so called foods haven't been made illegal.

Just caught our senior hen chirping at the chicks as she sat next to the brooder coop
