I caught the raccoon that ate our ducks in the act early this morning before dawn.
I let the birds out early so I could allow them to enjoy some supervised free range before they stayed locked up for the rest of the day

(I'm doing everything I can, but she's super tiny and only eats and drinks sporadically - wants to be under the brooder plate/sleepy when the others are super active). I'm not having the best luck this year.

I actually lost one of the Bantam Ameraucanas in the first 24hrs. That was a big bummer. One of the Bantam Cochins doesn't seem to be doing so hot either
My other chicks (from May) are doing really well, though! They are almost 14 weeks so we're just a few weeks away from POL (hopefully). My oldest flock (2yrs) has stopped laying and the feathers are a'flyin'!!

My Easter chicks are over 16 weeks now, hopefully they've got a month or two before laying. The most mature cockerel (that's also started crowing, very unusual for me, all other LF cockerels I've had crowed after the 5 and a half month mark) seems to have a carnation comb, not exactly sure how that came to be.
Time to gather all the feathers your girls have left you and make some art!
So interesting how genetics works! Things just pop up in the offspring that aren't visible in either of the parents. Very cool!
