Hello,
I have an aviary and a week ago noticed that one of my older parakeets (around 11 years old) started limping and it has progressively worsened. He looks like he’s in pain. I have tried taking him to a bird clinic but they are all very far and I haven't been able to contact one. Has anyone had a similar problem that they were able to solve or tips on how to help him. I work at a dog and cat clinic so maybe I can use a medication to relieve his pain, if someone has an idea of what to give, as my veterinarian doesn’t. I just want to help this little guy out and make his life better. Thank you in advance for the help.

Does his foot have any obvious injuries? Could you post a photo of him/his feet?
I’ve looked it over, there are no physical signs of injury the only thing he does is keep his foot limp and not place it. He hasn’t lost the feeling or anything as I pinched to make sure he could feel it. I looked for any possible lesions, broken nails, anything of that sort but there were none. It’s night time where I am at, so I’ll try to get a picture of it tmr and post it.
thank you for trying to help!!

Here is the picture I just took. The leg with the problem is that one that is closed, he rarely opens it up. I was doing some research and red that canyenne pepper can be helpful for pain, do you by any chance know if I can give that as a solution through mouth? Thank you again for your help, I’m trying my best to help this little guy.

I'm not entirely sure about the cayenne pepper. I'm stumped on what the problem with his leg is :idunno

I know me either, I was thinking maybe a really bad arthritis, possibly. I just wanted to help his pain. A dog you can give glucosamine but a bird there isn’t much. Thank you for trying to help I really appreciate it!! I’ll let you know if I find out anything.

I know you can give baby aspirin to chickens, but I don't know the dosage for a parakeet. i would lust let him rest and see if he makes any progress. try and feel for any hot spots on his foot. you might also want to try Vetrycin or Vetrycin hot spot spray. That might help him to heal up. But if you can find any hot spot or swelling, I would assume it is a sprain. Jus let him rest and see if he makes any progress.

Yes, please update me if anything changes. I hope it's nothing too bad :fl
