Little duck from the flea market...?

That's so sad. Yeah I keep a lot of med stuff on hand too but this is way beyond me. If she hasn't an oil gland now she will not be able to keep her feathers oiled which means she will probably need a lot of help getting dry and fluffed after swimming. To keep her from getting wet feather.

That's my biggest concern currently. The gland is still pink and has blood supply, so right now it's just about keeping it clean and stopping it from drying out until she goes in tomorrow.
God only knows how long she was sitting like this. Probably most of the morning/afternoon from the fly eggs.

Hopefully I'll have good news from the vet tomorrow!

I've lathered it up with medical grade Manuka honey to keep it moist. It's antibacterial so should be a big help!

Just a quick question unrelated to the wound and other stuff. Anyone have experience with getting a semi feral/frightened duck to trust you? I've always raised ducklings myself so never had this issue.

She's absolutely terrified (understandable!) and peeps/cries/runs into everything when I check on her and handle her. Any advice on getting her used to people?

Hey all. Was at the local flea market this morning and a guy there had a bunch of injured animals . This little one had a big hole in his back so I got him just to get him healed up.

Can anyone tell me anything about this duck? Breed/sex/anything? I'm thinking Muscovy but the colors seem wrong. I'm already in the process of getting the wounds cleaned up. Thanks in advance!

Im not as good with ducks as i am chickens color-wise but looks like a chocolate muscovy

Thank you for the images! She's gonna be one very beautiful duck . I'm not as familiar with this breed as I raised/raise Pekins. I didn't even know they came in chocolate!
