Little Giant 9200 Still Air Incubator - humidity

I have decided to give the FI another chance. I have 2 Red Sex Links that just started laying and black Silkie rooster that just started fertilizing the eggs. Since I'm only getting 2 eggs a day, I figured it won't hurt to try and hatch some since I won't lose any money if they don't hatch, like if I were to buy eggs online. I can't sell eggs because I'm getting a dozen or less a week. So I'm going to buy a new thermometer and next Wednesday, I'm giving it another shot. Hope I'll be able to candle since they are brown eggs. If the incubator sells before then I'll get the new incubator but it's unlikely. I'll have between 8-10 eggs to incubate. Hope it works! Good luck on your new ones Rainier and JW12.

The brown eggs are hard to see into. I was having to candle at night with all the lights out to see anything. There is a thread in here about trader joes selling fertile eggs. I keep thinking about trying to hatch some of those just to see if I can do it lol

That is my thought process as well. I'm hatching my own eggs so no money invested in it. If nothing else it gives me a great experience in hatching eggs, experience I wouldn't have if I hadn't used this incubator the first couple of times. Because of the problems I've had I know more about incubating eggs than I ever thought I'd know!

My trader joes doesn't have fertile eggs :( Our RIR lays darker brown eggs and it is really hard to see in!

I have 19 eggs and have 15 moving right now!!! Day 11 for me, half-way there!

In my eggs that are a dark brown (RIR girls) I look for the veins. If I cannot see the veins I look just above the air cell. I don't see "chick movement" but I do see the veins move or the bottom half of the dark area (that I cannot see in at all) moving. Make sure the egg as settled from you moving it first and make sure you are not moving the egg to limit any movement seen being from you.

Movement = viable chick.

This batch of chicks have just been crazy. They are either a black blob I cannot see through OR they are hiding towards the back and it takes a lot of tilting the egg to see them.
