little giant 9300

Sorry for the double post not used to mobile app yet. Geeky I would leave them fat side up for 3 days then start tilting in carton and not candle again until day 5 or so. They get so jumbled from shipping. You're right about the propping of carton I did this second clutch, nothing hatched, I also didn't let them rest beyond 24 hours. You're right about wanting to treat them as non shipped eggs if the cells are not detached though. I agree with Bama about the keeping them in cartons the entire time till hatch not being good. Good luck, I looked at images of those SFH they're beautiful birds!

How did your hatch go, did more hatch?[/quote]

Sorry, I haven't had an o opportunity to jump online. Yes , more hatched! :D I have 6 babies total! Not a great hatch rate but I was proud for my first time! The other 5 didn't hatch until Sunday night into Monday and I'd have to say Sunday morning I was really feeling super bummed. My son (who is 6) put one of his small stuffed animals in with the first chick so it wouldn't be lonely Sat night. Realistically that chick didn't have the chance to get lonely since my boy was with it most of the day with it. I'm lucky with him since he has a mellow demeanor so I don't have to worry about him being rough with them at all. He named it flower so let's hope it's a hen! :p I looked on YouTube about sexing by looking at the feathers at 2 days old and if that is a true way to tell then I think it'll be a hen. I'm already ready to incubate more but I haven't even finished building my coop yet because of rain! Thanks to the BYC members, I truly wouldn't have been able to do this without you!!!

I have one white rock, two RIreds, and 4 that the rooster was RIR and the hens another breed of red ( can't remember what my parents said the hens were at the moment) the obit chick I didn't have luck with was the orpington. I had 8 of those eggs but I wasn't able to get any of those to hatch :/ I thought about just buying a chick so I get my hen but I haven't decided yet.

Congrats on the first time hatch, @jurczak09! Sorry your hatch rate wasn't great but that's just an excuse to hatch more right? lol

My SFH eggs came today and out of 12 not a one was broken! My only complaint is that they weren't packed with the fat end up, I don't know if that makes a difference.

I candled and 5 have clearly detached rolling aircells, 5 have wibbly but attached aircells, and 2 I can't really even clearly identify an aircell so i fear those might be scrambled. They're all sitting upright in a carton in the incubator. I will reevaluate them in 48 hours and see if I can start turning them.

Average weight per egg is 56.66g at setting. I'm not going to add any water and I'll measure weight loss over time to see if my humidity is okay. We're in for another week of rain in Georgia so my humidity might end up being plenty high anyway.

Good news @Jurczak09, thanks for updating us and congratulations on your first hatch, I bet your son is loving those cute chicks! The Orphingtons were the shipped eggs? That's a nice looking clutch of eggs @GeekySheep! Hopefully they all settle back down and take to developing, don't be afraid to let them rest longer than the norm, I 've read about air cells not firming back up until day 15 or so and some never but they still hatch, good luck! Thought I saw the 3 eggs I layed on their sides wobbling a bit, here's hoping at least one of them hatches!

@only1bgirl, yes they were shipped so it was a chance I took! My son hooked on those chicks for sure! I'm am already starting to look for Orpington eggs that are a little closer. I'm in PA and the ones I gotten came from FL. Hope you're wobblers come out well for you!!

@GeekySheep, you are right darn good excuse to hatch again!! I am all about it! Good luck with your newly arrived eggs! Sorry to hear that the air cells are not better attached but like only1bgirl said some never do and they still hatch!
