Little Giant Incubator and turner

Thanks everyone for your help.

PC.... I am using a acurite. The probe is sitting egg level, and no I don't not have a wiggler. I know, I know I need one right....

I have finally got the temp stable (

) and the humidity is 50%. So I am hoping that things are gonna be ok.

PC, I just love me some hovabators! Can't help it. They are manufactured close to my old stomping grouinds in Ga. It is a loyalty thing sorta but you can't beat the 1588 for a first timer learning to hatch.

I have a Hovabator forced air. It is not the 1588 it is a little older than that. But it is awesome. I used it with my first hatch and got 19 out of 23 eggs to hatch.

The only reason I got the LG is because I needed to get some eggs in a bator asap and my hovabator was already full.

That's one of our Delawares. We ordered those eggs on Ebay from acchris and
had a good hatch. We got those in mid October before it got too cold. Those
eggs, Hinkjc's eggs, and our eggs yielded very good hatch rates for us. Once
November hit we had 4 batches of eggs, 3 batches from people we know have
AWESOME eggs, got killed by the cold, innacurate Flukers, and a lack of experience with
the Little Giants.

I completely believe you on that and even reccomend that unit to people based
on YOUR reccomendation. It's clearly the best of the under $100 styro bators.
I just don't think the Little Giant is a piece of junk like many people are saying.

I just love me my Brinsea.

I have no idea where it's made and doubt it's anywhere
close to me. Nothing is made in CT.

I guess it's like anything else, you can get spuds or stars.
I have a LG with turner and fan that has been running nonstop since '05 (holds steady temps, every viable egg that goes in it grows, and I trust it enough to let it do its' thing w/out a thermometer most of the time, don't even fool with it except to add water).

On the other hand, I have a LG with a turner I bought 2nd hand. The turner has been a 'hanging-up-piece-of-aggravation' since I got it (and killed countless eggs because I expected it to behave like the *good one*).

When they are good, they are very good. When they are bad, they are useless.

All three of mine are new and consistent with one another. Once they get where
I want them they stay there. Maybe I'll leave my hatcher 9200 just plugged in
all the time.

I did take your egg temp height post very seriously and measured the temp at
various heights. I was shocked at the difference, sometimes greater than 4 degrees.

I was just considering one of these that I saw on Craigslist. Maybe I should just let my boody hen sit on them! Seems like I might have an easier time with that.

I just had my first hatch with my Little Giant, it went great.

I did buy the egg turner with it. I also added a very small PC type fan, think laptop size.

Someone said to adjust it and leave it alone, I 100% agree. I spent about three days letting it run and adjusting it very slowly over time. Maybe 4 - 8 hours between adjustments.

I kept mine inside the house, I'm told that you can't have much of an abient temp swing.

Hello All,

We bought a used little giant incubator yesterday. Its a 5800, so it's a few years old. Same problem....can't get the temp to regulate. My husband is in a 'tiff' about it, & has been messing with it ever since. He thought that the thermostat was bad (the little 'wafer' thermostat) so he went & bought another one. That seemed to make him happy for about 15 mins until that did the same thing. He also has 3 thermometers in it. A digital, & 2 regular mercury ones. I told him to unhook the digital one, but he's not listening. Using one of these things with an impatient person isn't fun. What's the best one to go buy if you wanna start using it fairly quickly? And until i can go get that, i think that he's just going to have to 'chill' a bit, & watch this one & every hr or so; ever so slightly, try it again.
