Lockdown! Cross your fingers...Newest pictures, page 18

Last time, mine were all out after this long. HOWEVER, they also pipped all the way through the shell fast. This batch has pipped but has not broken actual chunks out of the shell yet. They've cracked the shell, but not knocked it out. Perhaps the shells are tougher. Dunno! Hoping....

The first one is now moving around better. One toe is still pretty curled. Hopefully that will resolve. He is awfully hungry. It's been wanting to eat since I got home - pecking at the floor. It just picked up a piece of egg shell and spat it out. It was pecking at the floor wanting to eat before it could even sit up!

Cute little thing! Will post pictures later. No time now. 'Fraid I have more living to earn...at least it'll keep me from hovering over the incubator all evening.

One more egg has a pip. It wasn't there a half hour ago. Still doesn't have a full chunk knocked out, though.

Edited to add:
He has just discovered that there is a world outside the Brinsea and took some practice pecks at the Brinsea plastic to see if he could break through (while chirruping loudly and unhappily). The last batch did this too as they started to get more active.

I Dunno What All The Hubbub Is? Walked By The Hatcher 30 Mins Ago And Thought I Had A Severe Roach Infestation--- 19 Lil Brown Fuzzballz Tearin Around In There Like They Were On Fire (god Baby Bobs Are Wicked Fast Lil Terrors) They Must Have Hatched While I Was Outside Feeding Earlier This Afternoon.. Just Wanderin Around In There Quiet As Lil Church Mice (which Is Unusal For Them..) 19 Out Of 20 Is Pretty Good For Late Season Eggs

They Are Now Ripping Around Their New Nursery And Not So Quiet Anymore (maybe I Should Have Left Them In The Hatcher :p )

Roaches! Funny! I had not a great hatch with shipped eggs....11 out of 80....out of my own eggs 40 out of 40....so it's not the incubator......DRATS!

Harumph, JJ!

So far, I still have just the one baby. The others had made little hairline cracks int heir shells 12-14 HOURS ago. Yet this is the only one out. None of the others have knocked a chunk out yet. I'll admit that they are starting to worry me. It would be AWFUL to lose them at hatch.

Glad you had a good hatch, of course! Now, if only mine will do the same.

Well, if I can't get out of here, then I might as well rest until the alien quits flashing lights at me:

FINALLY! I'm still not quite sure how I got out of that second eggshell, though.

I had to go ahead and pop the incubator open long enough to take little Zippy here out. He hatched before 3:30 and had been in there over 7 hours. By 3:45 he was looking for food and hasn't stopped. I took him to the brooder and he was eating in seconds. Hasn't tried water yet, but I'll show him that again later tonight. He's currently cuddled under Mama Turkey. (Mama Turkey is one of those big Beanie Baby turkeys. The last batch loved it -- the tail & wings are perfect for several of them to huddle underneath. I sit it up in a natural posture and they go under it about like they would an actual mother bird. Of course, it doesn't talk back to them, but it comforts them.
