Hello Backyard Chicken Folk!
Well, we have almost made it to lockdown with 9 Silkie Eggs. Temps in the Genesis have been inconsistant but ive been watching it close and making sure it stays within range. The problem is the Bator thermostat is off, so im monitoring with 3 other thermometers that are calibrated to keep in check. Im worried about lockdown since its supposed to be more hands off and was just reading I could add water bottles to help maintain temp (wish I tried this sooner) Is this something that you experienced folk would reccomend during lock down? Do you put mats on the bottom of the tray to help make it more non slip or should I leave bare? Any other reccomendations for a first timer? These are shipped eggs.

In in Southern CA. We have recently had a lot of rain, so even without adding water it has been about 45. Im more worried about humidity being too high during lockdown vs too dry. Times when its gone low in the 20s ive just added a small wet washcloth and thats done the trick. Its a rental bator, and pretty beat up. Im actually having to keep it at 102.5 for it to maintain temp near the eggs. If I dip to 102.4 it drops about 5 degrees!

Humidity at 60 to 70 is fine for lockdown..

Ok cool, thanks so much for the advice and assuring me that the tray is fine. Have you ever tried having water bottles in there during lock down?

I only read of people doing it last night, and since my temp hasnt been very stable I was thinking it could help, but also wish I had heard sooner and was able to test first.
