While discussing chickens and laying,
and feed-costs they were paying, theburtschickens gave a poem,
to those who read this forum.
It told the "plight" well,
of chickens bound for ____,
"Ol Blackie they fried,
But, that Roo had tried!
Try as he might, death was his plight.
He shoulda been a hen, when he was born back then,
And he coulda laid, and the egg-debt paid,
"Ol Blackie's outa luck......
He only cocka-doodle-dooed, 'cause he couldn't cluck!
I sweet talked my hens everyday for a month. One day, I had had enough...I told them "I give up! Do what you want to do! I don't even care anymore!" and the next morning... the prettiest, most delicious egg I have ever encountered appeared in my henhouse!
I try the same technique on my son when he doesn't do his school work or chores. It doesn't work.
that hang down from the chins real red too? When the comb (thing on head) and waddles (thing'ma-bobs on chin) turn red it means they are getting real close. May be take a mirror and let them see themselves and they will realize that with all the red going on it's time to start having those eggs come flyin' out their butts!!
