We have a "dog catcher" who works for our police department, don't you? If not, you should probably call your local police/sheriff department and report the dog as found. Perhaps the owners notified them that he was lost. I think I'd be worried about diseases if he's been roaming for some time. If you're not going to report him to the authorities, you should at least get him to a vet ASAP for a check-up. Poor thing, he looks scared.

LOL "scared"???? she looks likes she's having a great time !
she looks in great condition she must have someone looking for her

if not then resently dumped

good luck finding her owners! if not you should have no problem finding a good home for her

it would be wrong to put such a good dog in a shelter ,maybe post on craigslist and se if you could run a thing in the local paper

Take it to the shelter so it's owners can find her. Put your name down as first call if they don't claim her, she'll be yours. Then you can decide what to do with a clear conscience. No one is going to be looking for their dog chained in your yard. I always like to do what I'd like others to do and if my dog got loose I would hope someone would turn her in.

Agreed and well said.

Lil', relax. I'm glad to hear that she's very friendly. I was simply suggesting that it must be very frightening for a dog to be in a strange place (particularly after having been caught in a live trap), not that you were mistreating her.

You said that you hoped you could find her owner and the suggestion simply was to exhaust all possible resources, including the police/Animal Control, to find the owner. The fact that they put dogs down after a mere five days is unfortunate. However, there are always opportunities for people to adopt impounded dogs before the five days have expired.

Best of luck to you and to the dog!

Thanks for the well wishes.I have run several ads and made a lot of phone calls.I still will not take her to the pound. If I did and wanted her back, they would charge me around $125.Not to mention the diseases she would be exposed to.I know alot of folks put alot of faith in their animal control, but I know what happens.I would hope if my dog got lost and someone found her they would not take her the pound.I would hope they would take care of her and I would gladly reimburse them for anything they needed.I will keep this dog and keep her safe and take care of her until either she is claimed or someone really wants her.

That's super nice that you're willing to do keep her as long as necessary while trying to find her owner.

Any chance you could at least make an anonymous call to the police or animal control (or have someone do it for you?) to see whether the owner made a "lost dog" report to them? That way at least you covered that base in case they did. Just a thought.
Good luck. Keep us posted.

I think calling in to see if any one has reported a missing dog fitting her description is a good plan- then you can check without having to take her in. We found a puppy several months ago wandering the streets and decided to keep him after having him scanned for a micro chip, posting found ads, and calling the local shelters- no one had reported a dog fitting his description missing, he had no micro chip and no one emailed me to claim him, now hes ours

Good luck with her, she is a very pretty girl!

Around here some folks have that little chip inserted under the skin. I'd call around and find out if anyone can check for the chip and what it would cost. She is a fine looking dog and in my opinion she would be worth the expense of the chip.
