Looking for beautiful Breeds

Yeah I don’t really know anything about chicken prices haha I got mine from hatcheries or hatched them. And yeah it stinks but I do have 21 including 3 cockerels 😂🤣🙈
Ooo! Most I had at once was 15, including two ducks (rip, to 12 of them) I wish I could give into my desires for more chickens, but I’m glad I’m forced to keep my chicken math under control

I think If I could, I would have ordered some hatching eggs for something after seeing the birds mentioned in this thread

Yeah, my Anconas did too. And some did go broody. But out of all the breeds, there are probably better candidates.
Yeah true! I’m sure there are! But was just pointing out that not all Mediterranean breeds are bad in winter 😊 especially AZ winters 😉😜

But it’s hard because a lot of heavier breeds might not do so well in the heat while the lighter breeds don’t always do well in cold so it’s a toss up haha

(if that is allowed by GFF)
Oh no! It has the same acronym as Green Fire Farms! Trust me, those people are just trying to cheat you out of your money. You can’t count your chickens before they hatch.
but not really much more than a lot other rare or show quality breeds or whatever I’ve seen.
Except that they’re not show quality. Show breeders pour more money into their birds than they get out of them, and you can’t show a chick or a mutt either! GFF is absurd! XD Breeders breed from only one 10th of their flocks and sell out of one 25th.
And I can’t sell a grown pair of bantam Buckeyes for more than 50!
:lau

Well and the around 32 degrees I mentioned is the coldest it gets, period where we're looking to go. Lot easier than the -28 mine have to deal with now here. Heat concern is a much larger concern to me than the cold

Sorry about your ducks :(

I stuck to 8 for years and then last year I added 5 more pullets as my girls were getting older and then I got an incubator and hatched for the first time in November (got 8 boys out of 9 chicks 😂🤣) and then also added more 9 chicks this April (got one boy) plus let a broody hatch in July and I hatched quail in June 😂🤣 chicken math fully hit me LOL

I kept the girl and 2 boys from the November hatch but sadly no longer have them as I had to put 2 down and one randomly died. 😭😭

Thankfully I have his chicks. Those are the ones I let the broody hatch. He died 2 weeks after they hatched. 😭

2 ended up being boys plus My April cockerel lol

The November hatch I ordered hatching eggs from a hatchery and got lots of breeds and the quail eggs I ordered too. The broody one I hatched my own eggs. 😊

Yeah isn’t it? That’s why I thought ornamental breeds (still fairly lightweight) probably do best if you don’t care about production.
Mediterraneans are good money makers though. I’m breeding for show and get more young birds than I’ll ever need and raise them up. I sell the less-than-perfect pullets as layers for $15. Not sure if that’s worth as much money as the feed I put in her or not, but better than the bantams nobody wants.

I have triple digits now because of broodies, but I'll be cutting down drastically before I move.

Currently I have 15 males, at least 10 of which are permanent

Oh that’s not bad at all. Buttercups are fine if you don’t mind the lack of broodiness.
