Yeah, but cemanis alone cost the same as a dozen eggs from themSorry I’m being dramatic. Mosaics are a waste of money and they are mutts. You could produce the same effect with a Cemani and a barnyard chicken.

And that’s perfectly fine!! I like the fancier ones tooSorry if I was getting a little defensive with my own replies. I just didn't understand why me wanting pretty breeds meant I would be getting rid of them.
I don't eat eggs if I don't have to, and only butcher my current birds if I have to. I hatch eggs and enjoy looking at birds. It's not that I don't like basic birds, I just would rather have fancy ones.
When I was over in Reno this spring, someone on Craigslist was advertising a new heat/cold tolerant breed — the desert-(something). I think it was desert orchid. Pretty sure it was some kind of flower name. Didnt pay much attention at the time because nobody wants to carry a batch of hens 4+ hours in the car. But as I recall they were a colorful variegated breed like a Mille fleur.
Anybody heard of this?
What about Wyandottes? I love my girls so much and always admire their beautiful plumage. They are cold hardy and seem to be tolerating the heat here in Australia so farI'm trying to think of different breeds I want to get. I don't want just 'normal' birds (leghorns, orpingtons or australorps, normal birds like that.)
Wishlist:
-Heat tolerant! I'll be living in AZ in a few years and I can't have the A.c. in their barn XD
- cold tolerant too because we will be in the part if the state that gets a little below freezing at its coldest
-Broody wouldn't hurt, love my phoenixes going brood and just increasing themselves without my help
- Pretty. I want beautiful birds, with variety in colors and 'extras
I would not recommend Ayams because of the dark colors. I'm in California and my black and grey birds really suffer in the heat.I would suggest anything laced, as well as sumatras. I'd also say ayams or another melanistic breed.
That makes sense.I would not recommend Ayams because of the dark colors. I'm in California and my black and grey birds really suffer in the heat.
