LOS ANGELES county CA under bird quarantine :(

@Willowspirit And I'm trying to move to Southern California with my birds!
I'm hoping that where I'm going won't be effected :fl
Do you know exactly where you're moving to?

There is a strict no birds in or out in certain areas right now.

Please, whatever you write, don't succumb to the hysterics of the Save Our Birds people. After you've done your own research and come to your own conclusions, you might choose to focus instead on how they've interfered with the state's and FDA's efforts to eradicate this awful virus, most likely prolonged the quarantines and probably resulted in more rather than less necessity for euthanasia.

Their chief spokeswoman is on a very personal vendetta that puts the rest of Southern California more at risk but, nevertheless, she and her early public rantings that others should hide or move their birds is the one who takes up all the ink when this topic comes up.

@Kiki yes, Fallbrook (which is right under the quarantine line).
I made a thread on it hoping to get some tips on the actual move, but now I'm worrying most on the VNC!

The newest outbreak have occurred in the eastern areas of San Bernardino and Romona (I think). I'm not aware of a more recent incident in Los Angeles County. Any recent activity will likely keep the existing quarantines in place. And I'm guessing that will include Los Angeles County until they reassess. Every 6 months, I believe.

The bottom line is Fallbrook is safe at the moment. Proximity is a matter of concern but not restriction. And we hope the state's and FDA's efforts will keep it safe.

Keep your birds contained in a coop and a covered run. Practice good biosecurity. Know the folks you buy your supplies from and who comes on your property and approaches your flock. You'll be OK.

The report needs to look at the animal welfare issue. I just want to cover the euthanasia methods by the CDFA, not whether they are called for or not.

Fair enough! I hope you'll consider the big picture which is to say healthy birds in contaminated areas that need to stay healthy and birds outside the quarantined counties who need for the virus not to spread.
