LOS ANGELES county CA under bird quarantine :(

Again, I'd really like to see any studies on cross-property airborne transmission.

Far more likely is that commercial flocks were contaminated by workers dabbling in or attending cockfights.
I have to agree with this comment, far more likely. And these are also probably the same people who are then contracted by the CDFA to violate people's rights with unlawful search and seizure and destroy other peoples home flocks that stay in one place and aren't spreading any disease.

I'm just going to say it: Most Latinos aren't involved in cockfighting, but most busted cockfighting involves Latino subjects. I'm sick of people saying it's a racist thing or a cultural thing. Cockfighting is a criminal offense, and if the USDA tables are correct, eliminating cockfighting operations would pretty much end this outbreak.

This comes via the FB site:
http://publichealth.lacounty.gov/vet/docs/CDFA_Quarantine_Guidance4.3.19.pdf

So as it looks, any animals turned in at shelters get euthanized, and guidance is that rescues need to do exactly the same thing. Pentobarbital (blue juice, euth drug) is a controlled substance, so how do they expect rescues to get this legally? Oh, they're to stomp their chickens instead...

The state's parameters are to kill chickens within a 3km radius. I'd like to see the numbers on the spread of VND over 200m let alone 3km before irrevocably seizing people's animals.

How is this all being managed? It seems very non transparent. I’m not understanding why this SOB lady got a notice in December but CDFA is just now 5 months later visiting Norco. Did it just take that long to get the funding and resources?

One lady on the SOB site whose birds were euthanasized said CDFA came two weeks ago and showed her a map of nearby vnd confirmed cases.

I wish we had more information. I can see where the SOB lady wanted more info.

But the USDA site is only reporting one or two vnd cases out of riverside county a week (?) that’s teeny.

We aren’t hearing anything about any killing teams in San Bernardino county (?)

Is it that CDFA posted euthanasia zones in Dec/Feb and now they are implementing them once they have more resources?

Kerri is in Perris. Wherever, though, if she got a VND notice from 5 MONTHS AGO and her chickens aren't dead, that's a confirmed NON-SPREAD from her neighbors'.

And yeah, California puts off doing stuff until the federal government gives money, just as munis put off doing stuff and blame Prop. 13.

So true. It would be obvious at that point that the chickens did not get it from the neighbors! It seems like the euthanization area around confirmed cases seems to be arbitrary... saw one post on that face book page where she found out there were no confirmed cases within 10 miles and hens were still killed

I don't wanna panic, but I am starting to. Now wondering if I should cancel my chick order. I know that if we are put in quarantine, shipments will be halted (CA is a huge state, so who knows if/when my area would be subjected to quarantine). But is it irresponsible for me to subject new birds to this? Or am I overreacting? I often do...

Don't know if this has already been addressed because I'm only catching up on this thread (page 37 of 50 at the moment).

Hatcheries are banned from sending any order that will pass through LAX (or, assumedly other Los Angeles County airports and post offices). That may affect many more people then reside in Los Angeles County.

My order due to have been shipped on 4/22 was cancelled by the seller. That's how I found out...

Honestly. The word isn't out there. I am on some Facebook groups and people are selling and or moving chickens are through southern California. I have tried informing the situation and they ignore me.

My local feed store has stop selling chicks but they get theirs from Texas so they probably can't get them in.

I've told at least 3 teachers in my area of the San Fernando Valley that there's a reason they can't get fertile eggs to hatch in their classrooms, explaining vND and their responsibility not to become vectors to the virus. Nevertheless, there's some homeschooling parent who offers eggs, offers to come provide the lesson and then to transport the chicks back to her operation. I've told her transporting birds AND eggs is now illegal. I don't know if that will deter her. Hoping so!

If the state is involved in this containment/eradication effort I don't know why they aren't making sure schools are aware and part of the solution...
