LOS ANGELES county CA under bird quarantine :(

Has the CDFA released any info on what they plan to do now that the virus is back in la county? I thought that was there “worst case scenario” that the culling was supposed to prevent? (Supposedly back in La county, unclear if the detections listed on the website have actually been tested and were positive rather than just culled with a negative test)

No..everyone is a bit in the dark about that. Looks like if you look at the CDFA time elapse map, which includes up to May 19 (or so it states) it seems to be back in Compton and Whittier. Those folks are supposed to be in depopulation zones, as well as parts of San Bern county, but we havent seen any depopulation reports yet from feathered pet owners from those areas. Just Perris, Norco, Mira Loma so far.
Feathered pet owners in LA county should be contacting their elected representatives with their concern.
Practice biosecurity with bird shows, fairs, feed stores, farms, other people with chickens.
Make sure your birds are not running loose on the street. Dont move your poultry.

Completely agree. Thanks in advance for any additional info you can get us @Brahma Chicken5000

Other "mandatory euth" zones are reporting kill squads, Muscoy in SB County, Nuevo, Jurupa Valley...but haven't heard of depop activity in la county proper. The USDA chart doesn't say it went back into Compton and Whittier though.

You're right...I thought I had seen a last blip for May 2019 on the time elapse CDFA map, but theres nothing there for LA County, only for Riverside and San Bern. Another transparency problem, its not actually updated to May 19, 2019 for LA County.
I dont think then even though it says updated May 19, 2019 they updated either map at all for LA County, unless they are insinuating by the overall detections map that its in Compton/Whittier, which my assumption is most likely wrong.
SOB site have any insight?

The SOBers have no idea where in LA County this is, especially without the CDFA map updated. No one has reached out from the new LA county cluster. Now, people are reaching out from the High Desert, back side of Temecula, alarmed that people without iD are coming onto their ranches and snooping around.

In other news, the lady that fainted yesterday was NOT revived by any cops; it was in fact a CDFA agent and a SOBer on site that helped her as she fainted multiple times. She decided NOT to go to the hospital as her husband would then go with her, leaving CDFA to tromp all over her yard while killing her animals. She didn't want to leave him alone for that.

OK, for those not directly affected (yet) here's one thing to do:

PRACTICE CAUTION AT THE FEED STORE.

I'm in NorCal. My feed store is actually in the city where the infected SoCal rooster was diagnosed. There's no sign posted there that VND is a problem in California. There's no flyers about biosecurity at all. There's no footbath. You walk in there, and there's literally a mom duck with her sleeping ducklings piled up next to her in the open for anyone to touch. They've got pigeons, ducks, bantams all in close proximity. And one of their "not for sale" cages is full of American Gamefowl chicks. Little fighting roosters.

This is literally every single factor implicated in VND right there. And it's a nice store. In an affluent area.

So if you're going to your store--even your urban chicken store--minimally spray down your shoes and wash your hands before interacting with your own birds. Quarantine any new chicks for a month.

Riverside is the fire. But we in the rest of California are the tinder.

This is why everyone needs Lysol in there car.

I really need to start carrying Lysol in my car.

Lol just be careful. When I first heard about vND on my first trip to the feed store I sprayed the bottom off my shoes and pants with Lysol like a good girl. Then I went crazy and thought I should be extra cautious and sprayed the floor of the car. Ok. Bad idea. I almost killed myself with Lysol. :lau:he:oops::eek:
