My Coop
Once upon a time there was a nice, large chicken coop under a beautiful shade tree...

And then our part of Virginia was unceremoniously slammed with a giant wind storm which blew the tree over and onto the coop... smashing it to oblivion.

The good news: No chickens were living in the brand new coop yet.

The bad news... I had 15 chicks on order to arrive next week. The brooders are ready and I have all the supplies. But now, we have no coop for when they outgrow the brooders... and no extra money to spare.

So I had to cancel the order for the chicks

Hopefully we can find some chicks locally - maybe just start with 5 or so and build a coop from old pallets and use PVC to build a run. Wish me luck!

No matter what side of that tree you put the coop, that's where the tree would have fallen. What a shame. The coop can be replaced but that was a magnificent tree. So sorry to hear that.

Thank God there were no chickens in it. It could have proved lethal to a whole lot of birds. Good luck in finding a coop to replace it. You are certainly in the right forum for assistance with that.

I am so sorry that is terriable. Our coop is under a large shade tree I too worry about it falling on the coop.
So far the tree has weathered everything and I mean everything even the tornado outbreak of april 2011.

Is any of the wood reusable so that you do not have to buy everything again to make a new one. Best of luck to you.
It is so good that no one was living in it at the time. That is a blessing in disguise.

Bad luck! And it had to fall on the coop.

Hope you get a replacement and some chicks soon.

I'm so very sorry! How disheartening.

Hopefully you will be able to rebuild and start a small flock. My neighbor across the street has a huge coop that was made up of 100% recycled free materials.

Glad to hear no chickens were harmed. I hope the rest of your family and house were not harmed in the storm. That was an old tree. A beauty for sure.
