X2Problem number 1... turkeys need more protein AND amino acids than chicks... they should be on a game bird starter with 28-30% protein.

They've been starved of protein. Normally medicated chick starter is between 18 and 22%. Turkey poults need at least 28% protein till 8 weeks of age. Then they need 24-26% protein till 6 months when they can be cut back to the 16-18% they are getting now.
Not only are they not getting the amino acids it takes to develop fast growing bodies, their immune systems are being compromised.
The reason for this is that in nature, turkey hens show their poults how to find insects and all sorts of vertebrates and invertebrates. That makes up the bulk of baby turkey diets, not seeds and grains.
