"Louisiana "La-yers" Peeps"

Those work but for about 20 bucks you can make any fan do that

Really? Enlighten me please. I've always been scared to try something like that because the thought of putting water on something electrical like that just gives me the willies.

I really need to go get the fans. I know how I can put them in my coop but now just trying to figure out how I'm going to put them in my 2 grow out coops!! I'm thinking about covering the top and sides down to about 4 or 5 foot from the bottom with a tarp and that way it should give them plenty of shade. Just hoping that the covering would be enough to keep the fans from getting wet!!

I wouldnt cover them that low. You should only need 2 foot from the top max to keep the weather out but could close it down enough to cause a greenhouse effect. That would make your heat factor even worse as all the hot air would be trapped 4 feet from the ground up

Ventilization, shade, and fresh water are the most critical elements with the high heat. Thats one of the top reasons I use auto watering in all my pens and dont close them in.

That makes sense. I just figured that if I left that much open then I would have enough air flow! Guess not huh!! I wish I had the money just to put a roof on the 2 small runs. I know it won't cost that much but I just have too much going on right now!! The tarps will just have to do. I'm planning on doing a watering line. I found a pressure regulator that will let me hook the line up directly to my water line. What kind of watering system do you use??

Lol go to lowes home depot or any hardware store and get you a fitting to go from a water hose to a 1/4 inch nipple. Pick you up some 1/4 inch tubing and a adjustable drip waterer. Put that together and zip tie it in front of any fan set on mist. The fan blows it out instead of through. Make sense ?

LOL, Sometimes I feel like I don't use my head. I'm usually pretty good at doing things like that, but I wasn't thinking about it going in front of the fan. I was thinking of it going behind the fan and couldn't figure it out.

Anyway, thanks a million.

Howdy All!!!

I hate to say, but I lost one of my Speckled Sussex hens from my first flock yesterday. She was in the hen house and the door somehow got shut. Never has happened before, and she got too hot. Really a shame because she was one of my friendliest hens.

On the other note... The 4 coronation Split Sussex that I hatched have finally been identified. 3 are coronation, one is a white split. The white split is a roo, and one of the coronations are a roo. I have one Coronation pullet that hatched the weekend of the Spring Expo back in March and she is really nice looking, She's 10 weeks old now, so just about POL!. Sadly she won't have a Coronation roo to mate with so she will just lay eggs. Her buddy a BA Pullet just hit POL at 13 weeks so we are expecting to find an egg from her soon. The Coronation Splits hatch also had 2 BA's hatch and one of them is a roo. So if they make it all the way out, I'll have a Trio of BA, a Trio of Coronations, A trio of EE, a Trio of BR's. All I'll need a Buff Orphington and I'll have a quad of those.

STAY COOL!

Barredbabies I actually use the dog bowl waterers. Only because I can sweep them out daily or every 2 days depending on the heat and they stay clean fresh and never run dry.
I have thought about nipple systems just haven't ventured that way yet. I think I might install some for the chickens but I also have waterfowl everywhere that need a full bill in the water so nipples alone wont work for me

I use the cup waterers for all my quail breeders though and they work great but chickens make a mess outta them and are kinda hard to clean regularly.
