Loving the chick life!

Well, Barred Rocks are heavy when bred correctly. Your new bird would probably be a big black bird with sparse barring on it. The white toe I don't think is an issue. It's kinda like, people buy barred rocks with yellow or black feet even though they regularly have yellow and black barred feet. For barred rock breeding your mainly trying to keep the dual in dual purpose. Barred Rocks who are small and lay eggs only are single purpose. You want to buy a barred rock that is heavy and lays lots of eggs. Don't mix barred rocks or Rhode Islands with docile breeds such as orps or Marans because they can batter the latter

No I couldn't kill them either! I was saying some people would pay more for the standards of breeds. You could breed for egg production which can be done by crossing Rhode Island roosters with barred hens to get the egg laying Red Sex Link (You can find out if it's a rooster or a hen right out of the egg by size of spot on head) or they are called Red Rock Cross.

The best egg layer from east to west is the leghorn! I have five leghorn and they're still laying lots at three years! Though four Red Rocks where able to give 1200 eggs a year! Australorps also can lay quite the load too. One laid a bit more than 340 in one year! It really depends on protein intake and weather area. I still get eggs in winter and I live in Northern Canada! -56 F are my winters!
