Luikse Vechter aka Liege Fighter Thread

Pics
One month old today, I’ll do updated pics monthly now until a year old. They were hard to get pics of since I moved them outside over the weekend. Having fun exploring the yard
Saw these liege on an eBay auction for eggs. Wonder if that grey one will look like this.

Does anyone have pictures of eggs? I just got some off ebay, and two of them look different from the rest.
Dnorton I believe you bought my eggs based on our messages and your post here. I can assure you that the lighter colored egg is from the same hens! My only liege hens in that pen. If you hatch out anything other than a liege fighter I will send you 1 dozen fertile eggs and make sure that they are all uniform and will set aside the eggs from the hen who lays a little bit lighter colored egg.

I do appreciate you doing your due diligence. I do not have any idea why her egg is a lighter color, but she is exactly like my other 3 hens in that breeding pen, i can’t even tell them apart aside from 2 being blue and 2 being black. I give you my word in front of other folks I plan to swap eggs with that you received pure liege fighters from what believe are quality representations of the breed! Thank you for your support.

A trip to the coop as I write this tonight.

I hope this puts your mind at ease! Good luck with your hatch, I would love to have you keep us posted here on the forums on how it goes! I believe this is a great tool for us all to diversify our flocks and share an interest in a cool breed!

I also have eggs in the incubator from maybe a day before your eggs were collected. They are on day 5 and showing signs of development. These are the exact eggs from the exact chickens within a day of time your eggs were collected and shipped! 62848934-73BE-4AFE-8A2C-4877A9C126B0.jpeg

Excellent, thanks. I mean no offense. I have limited space, can only focus on a few breeds, so want to make sure I’m only raising and breeding those. I’m only a year in, so my experience is limited to less exotic birds. I’m going to sneak them under a salmon favorelle that just went broody. I just had another one hatch out some chicks, so I’m hoping this one will be a good mother too.

No offense taken at all, I truly hope if nothing else your search for validation brought you to this thread where we can all continue to work on and discuss these birds together. I know how shady many eBay sellers are, so I wanted to make sure to do my due diligence and ensure that you are happy with what you have purchased from me! 1 negative review or eggs that aren’t what they are meant to be would definitely affect my reputation in what is already such a risky purchase. Keep us posted on how your hatch goes. Look forward to chatting with you! Thanks again for your purchase!

Well, all good so far. My favorelle is sitting on them. She got chased off by a broody Mille fleur bantam for a minute who took over but couldn’t cover all the eggs, but I fixed that. I’ll let you know in 21 days.

So how old before y’all could tell hen from roo, and what were the signs that stood out the most. I’m trying to put as much information out there as possible since you can find almost nothing about the early chick stages. Did your males or females grow / feather faster, comb growth quicker in males? Did the leg size give any indication? Just questions like this I’m really curious about, so any input would help
